Born on August 6, 2004, in Liège, Belgium, his early days in football were quite easier compared to many other young stars. Diego Moreira is the son of former Guinea-Bissau international Almami Moreira. Football was included as the major part of his upbringing.
He initially joined the academy of Standard Liège and spent his initial years developing at the Belgian club. His maternal grandfather, Helmut Graf, was also a professional footballer who played for Standard Liège, giving Moreira another strong footballing connection.
Diego Moreira was primarily an attacking player during his early days. He was capable on playing on either wing. Moreira then moved to Portugal and completed his further development with SL Benfica‘s academy side in August 2020.
He went on to play a key role for the under-19 side of the club who won the UEFA Youth League. The Belgian player also got to play for the Benfica B side. All before the English Premier League side Chelsea came on knocking on his door in the summer of 2023.
Diego Moreira made his debut for the Blues first team during a Carabao Cup fixture against AFC Wimbledon. Due to limited playing time, he spent the rest of the 2023-24 season at Lyon on loan.
In 2024, RC Strasbourg Alsace of Ligue 1 signed him. Moreira’s versatility became quite valuable for the club. He also evolved his role from an attacking winger into a player capable of operating as a left-back, left wing-back or left midfielder. His efforts for the club were quite noticeable, and they attracted the Serie A giants AC Milan.
They signed him during the summer 2026 transfer window. He is contracted with the club until 30 June 2031. His recent performance against SS Lazio caught the eye of many.

Moreira initially represented Belgium Under-15s, but later opted to represent Portugal from Under-16 level onwards. He slowly progressed and also represented the nation at the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. However, he switched allegiance to the Belgium national football team in 2025.
