Two giants begin their Champions League campaign and will hope to secure a win tonight.
Borussia Dortmund will begin their 2026-27 Champions League quest tonight, hosting Villarreal of LaLiga at Signal Iduna Park in their opening league-phase match.
BVB may make it four victories in a row in midweek. The Yellow Submarine strive for their first win of the Champions League campaign.
Dortmund, led by Niko Kovac, are in good form heading into this match. Anything less than victory will be viewed as a setback for the Black and Yellow.
Following a 2-1 defeat against Der Klassiker rivals Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup, BVB have won three straight games, including a 3-2 Bundesliga victory over Hoffenheim on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Villarreal replaced Marcelino with Inigo Perez in the summer. The new boss is about to face another tough test after a rough start in the LaLiga dugout.
The Yellow Submarine have lost all four of their matches this season, beginning with back-to-back draws and then losing their last two.
Most recently, Perez’s team were defeated 3-2 by Deportivo La Coruna in the Spanish top division. A result made all the more worrying by the fact that the club gave up the lead Nicolas Pepe had acquired with only 19 minutes remaining.
