Egypt starting lineup vs Australia confirmed for FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match

Australia and Egypt last faced each other in 2010 in a friendly.

In 1934, Egypt became the first African and Arab nation to qualify for the World Cup. However, they were eliminated in their first game after they lost 4-2 to Hungary. After decades, they returned to the global stage in 1990 and 2018 but were eventually eliminated in the group stage.

Earlier in this edition, they claimed their first-ever victory in the tournament by defeating New Zealand. And realistically, they have also qualified for the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time.

As they face Australia in their round-of-32 clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the Pharaohs will look forward to capturing their first-ever knockout victory.

The Pharaohs started their campaign in the ongoing edition with a 1-1 draw with Belgium. They later secured an important 3-1 win over the All Whites before ending their campaign with another draw against Asian giants Iran. Egypt finished second in Group G, trailing Belgium.

However, with a strong will and confidence at an all-time high, they are all set to compete against Australia at the greatest stage of football.

Thoughts on the lineup

Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush will be leading the attack for the Egyptian side. The Manchester City attacker will play as the frontman, while Salah will feature as the right winger. Emam Ashour and Mostafa Ziko will also join the two attackers to provide support from the centre and the left wing.

Ahmed Fathy and Marwan Attia will be responsible for controlling the tempo in the game while providing balance to the side. Meanwhile, Mohamed Hany and Karim Hafez will help the backline with width, while Mohamed Abdelmonem Ibrahim and Ramy Rabia will form the attacking duo. Mostafa Shobeir will keep the gloves for Egypt.
