FC Bardez edge past Sporting Goa in GPL

FC Bardez Goa beat Sporting Clube de Goa 0-1 to seal a narrow win in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today. Richard Costa scored the only goal of the game.
FC Bardez Goa made a few changes to the squad as Richard Costa was back from suspension. Cavin Soares was out with an injury and Girish Naik took his place. Saviour Gama saw his name in the starting XI. Lenstan Afonso returned from injury and saw his name among the substitutes.
Both the teams started the game on a good note, but In the 4th minute of the match FC Bardez came close to getting an early lead as Latesh Mandrekar crossed the ball from the right flank. Saviour Gama got the ball and shot, but his effort went in vain.
At the other end Sporting could have gone one up as Subhasish Bose tried a shot from outside the box. The ball got deflected off Rowilson Rodrigues and almost went into the net but for keeper Bilal Khan.
FC Bardez took the lead in the 50th minute as Alesh Sawant’s free-kick was converted by Richard Coasta as he got the loose ball and smashed it in the net. FCBG had the best chance to make it 0-2 in the 61st minute as Myron Mendes gave an overhead pass to Koko Sakibo right outside the 18-yard box. Koko shot the ball which missed by a whisker.
Sporting could have got an equalizer in the 76th minute of the match as Victorino Fernandes passed the ball to Francis Dadzie who was flagged offside by the referee. Francis Dadzie had the best opportunity of the game for Sporting as he had a clear chance to finish the ball, but defender Girish Naik just reached there on time to clear the ball away.
FC Bardez coach Armando Colaco said, ”The team played well and I’m happy that the boys finished in 4th position."
With this win FC Bardez end their season in fourth spot in the Goa Professional League, with 34 points out of 20 matches just one point above Calangute Association who now go down on fifth. Sporting Club de Goa remain in second position with 42 points with 20 matches played.
