The FIFA World Cup 2026 final will be played on July 19.

With only two games remaining in the FIFA World Cup 2026, the summer competition is currently in its last stretch. Two-time champions France will face Thomas Tuchel’s England in the third-place play-off on July 18. Meanwhile, defending champions Argentina will clash against Spain in the summit clash.

Apart from gaining notoriety for the different treatment of teams and a few refereeing decisions, the weather has also not been the most kind to the tournament. Earlier, players were forced to play in heatwaves across North America, especially in Canada and the USA.

The Round of 16 clashes and the quarterfinals were played in significant heat, and now, the air quality in the USA has been reported as poor.

Concerns have been raised about the quality of the weather in the New York and New Jersey area in the USA. The MetLife Stadium, also known as the New York-New Jersey Stadium, is set to host the FIFA World Cup 2026 final on Sunday, July 19. However, the area’s quality has been reported as severe.

It has been compared to smoking the equivalent of 10 cigarettes a day, prompting a public health warning throughout the state. The issue has been caused by the wildfires across the border in Canada. The wildfire has caused massive smoke clouds in the United States, turning the sky grey.

Outdoor activities have also become difficult for residents, and soon warnings were issued asking people to limit going outside. Pictures have also revealed the extent of the air quality issue and the smoke visible in the sky around buildings. Meanwhile, the colour of the sun has also been turned into blood red due to the same.

The air also smells of burning wood, and the National Weather Service has issued an air-quality alert. Free KN95 masks have also been provided to the residents in the state in various public places, including libraries, police stations, and its famous firehouses.

Thus, concerns regarding the FIFA World Cup 2026 final have increased because while residents are asked to avoid outdoor activities, players might have to play in the open air, filled with toxins from the fires.
