The 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup has now come to a close. The Spain national football team took down Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the grand finale to secure their second-ever World Cup crown.
It surely was a tournament to remember. A total of 1,248 players across 48 nations initiated the battle for the mega prize. We saw debutant nation Cabo Verde become a fan favourite after their top-of-the-line performances and immense hard work against the top teams.
Mega stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar and many others appeared in their final edition of the FIFA World Cup. There were many emotional moments. On the other hand, quite shocking ones.
On top of all, Luis de la Fuente’s Spain came out on top to clinch the FIFA World Cup 2026. Captain Rodri, with his performances, edged Leo Messi to clinch the World Cup Golden Ball award. The 19-year-old centre-back Pau Cubarsí was named the FIFA Best Young Player.
La Roja were able to secure seven clean sheets in eight games at the mega competition. As a result, Unai Simón bagged the Golden Glove award.
France‘s Kylian Mbappe scored 10 goals and four assists, which helped him secure the World Cup Golden Boot. Some other stars might not have secured an award, but have been named in the FIFA World Cup 2026 team of the tournament.
