La Albiceleste became the second finalist in the ongoing World Cup.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is finally entering its business end. After 102 matches, the expanded 48-team edition in North America has its two finalists, with Argentina booking their place in the showpiece event with a comeback 2-1 victory over England in the semi-finals at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 15.
After a goalless first half, the Three Lions took the lead 10 minutes after the restart, with Morgan Rogers’ terrific cross being converted by Anthony Gordon. The European side successfully held off wave after wave of Argentine attacks, but Enzo Fernandez equalised in the 85th minute after a brilliant strike from distance.
La Albiceleste then completed an unprecedented turnaround when Lionel Messi’s cross was headed into the back of the net past Jordan Pickford by substitute Lautaro Martinez. This goal proved to be the winner, booking Argentina’s place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, where they will face Spain at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 19.
The Three Lions, meanwhile, will take on France in the third-place playoff clash at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on July 18.
