Some of the most iconic managers make the list for winning 250 matches in the quickest time.
English football is popular across the world for its breakneck competition. The Premier League in particular has a huge audience as the league houses some of the world's best players and managers. Over the long history of the competition, plenty of legendary figures have taken charge of elite clubs.
A few handful of those managers were able to surpass 250 wins while hedging respective English top-flight clubs. Recently, Pep Guardiola of Manchester City wrote his name in the history books for reaching 250 wins. The Spaniard achieved the feat in merely 344 matches. However, where does he stand in terms of reaching the target in the quickest amount of time?
Here is a look at the past records of top-five managers, who reached 250 wins with top-flight English clubs in quickest amount of time:
5. Don Revie - 439 matches
Don Revie was a former player and manager in English football who had a very successful spell with Leeds United in the top flight. He was the manager of the team from 1961 to 1974. The tactician reached 250 wins for the club in 439 matches.
He was also appointed as the manager of England, taking the charge of the national side from 1974 to 1977. Later in his managerial career, Revie also took charge of Asian clubs like Al-Nasr and Al-Ahly. He passed away in 1989, at the age of 61.
4. Arsene Wenger - 433 matches
Arsenal’s domination in the early 2000s is credited to their legendary manager Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman was at the helm of the London-based club for over 1224 matches. He reached 250 wins for the club in 433 matches and also guided the team to three Premier League wins.
The tactician was particularly impressive in delivering UEFA Champions League football on a consistent basis. Wenger also helped Arsenal win seven FA Cup trophies. He is currently working with FIFA as a Director of Development.
3. Kenny Dalglish - 429 matches
“Sir” Kenny Dalglish has a huge admiration amongst the Liverpool FC fanbase. He is considered a legend of the club, revered across the globe by the fans of the Reds. He took charge of Liverpool as manager on two different occasions, with the first sting lasting six years. The Englishman reached 250 wins in 429 matches only.
He is currently a board member at the club. The tactician helped Liverpool win three Premier League titles amongst other silverware. He also led teams like Blackburn FC and Newcastle United in the top flight.
2. Jose Mourinho - 396 matches
Jose Mourinho’s arrival to the Premier League is still remembered as one of the most memorable periods in English football. The Portuguese manager signed for Chelsea FC in 2004 and immediately took the league by storm with his mannerisms and genius. He was the only manager until recently to reach 250 wins in under 400 matches. He reached the feat in 396 fixtures.
Jose had multiple stints in the Premier League. He led Chelsea in his first stint from 2004 to 2007, then returned for a second stint from 2013 to 2015. Later, Manchester United hired the tactician where he spent two more years from 2016 to 2018 and lastly, he took charge of Tottenham Hotspur from 2019 to 2021.
1. Pep Guardiola - 344 matches
Pep Guardiola holds the record for reaching 250 wins in the quickest amount of time with a top-flight English club(s). He has achieved the feat in only 344 matches. The Spaniard has dominated the domestic circuit with Manchester City since taking over the role as manager in 2016.
Since then, Guardiola has won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, four League Cups and two Community Shields. Winning the UCL with City is the one trophy that eludes the legendary manager.
