Top five players with most penalty goals in Premier League history

Some of the most lethal attackers have been the leaders in penalty conversion over the years.

The Premier League, in its history, has seen some iconic footballers. Due to the competitive nature of the league, the clubs tend to have some of the best footballers in world football. From them, the attackers in particular, have created several goalscoring records while representing their teams in the competition. They have scored goals in multiple situations, specifically from the penalty spot.

Scoring a penalty is easier said than done. It is a high-pressure situation for any player, who needs to have composure in front of a capacity crowd. Any footballer knows that it is a nerve-wracking situation. Only the players with an elite mentality are successful from the spot.

The following five players are leaders in the Premier League era in terms of scoring the most penalties. Their efficiency from the penalty spot was remarkable, to say the least. Shifting the focus towards the most lethal penalty-takers, here are the top five with the most goals:

5. Sergio Aguero - 27 

Manchester City’s domination in the last decade is largely credited to their club legend Sergio Aguero. His contribution to the club’s success has been immense, one that has immortalized him in the club’s history. The Argentine scored 27 penalty goals, which is the fifth-highest tally for an individual player.

Overall, Aguero managed 184 goals in the league, which is the fourth-highest tally for any player. Interestingly, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy both have 26 penalty goals each. They will most likely overtake Aguero in the rankings, as the forward has retired from professional football. 

4. Mark Noble - 28

Mark Noble is one of the most reliable figures from the penalty spot. The midfielder has 28 penalty goals in his career. He has only represented West Ham United in the Premier League and is heading towards the last phase in his career. 

The Englishman has played over 544 games for the Hammers, scoring 62 goals and making 61 assists in the process. While Noble is a defensive midfielder by trade, his efficiency from the penalty spot is impressive. 

3. Steven Gerrard - 31

Steven Gerrard is regarded as one of the best midfielders to grace the Premier League. The Liverpool legend spent all of his Premier League years at the club, becoming one of the greats. He played 504 matches in the league and scored over 121 goals.

In the process of becoming one of the few midfielders to score a century of goals, Gerrard also managed 31 goals from the penalty spot in the Premier League. He was one of the cleanest strikers of the ball, who scored several iconic goals from long range.

2. Frank Lampard - 43

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is the second-highest penalties scorer in the history of the Premier League. He scored an incredible 43 goals from the spot and is also the highest-scoring midfielder in the league’s history.

The current Everton boss scored 177 goals from 611 appearances in the league, which makes him the sixth-highest goalscorer in the Premier League. He also featured for West Ham United and Manchester City.

1. Alan Shearer - 54

Alan Shearer is the player with the most penalty goals in the Premier League. He has 54 penalty goals to his name, 11 more than second-placed Lampard. It is safe to say that Shearer’s record will stay unbroken for the foreseeable future.

Moreover, the former Newcastle United striker is also the all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League. He has a tally of 260 goals and is only the second player apart from Wayne Rooney (208 goals) to score more than 200 goals in the Premier League’s history.
