Premier League is a fierce league competition with next to no space for error. The style of football is frantic and high on intensity. This is a reason why clubs in English top flight have begun to drift towards young players who are at their peak in terms of fitness and energy.
More and more teams employ young squads to keep the intensity levels high and also to keep an eye on the future development of their players. As a result, many young players find themselves playing in the senior setup due to their ability and energy levels, replacing the senior players who have lost a yard of pace in their game.
The league is becoming a hub of Europe’s top young talents. Therefore, this article takes a look at the top five clubs that have fielded the youngest squads in terms of average age in the 2020/21 season of the Premier League. 5. Manchester City - 26.3 years
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are the fifth-most youngest squad in the league. The six-time league winners have a star-studded squad full of best talents from across the globe due to their financial muscle.
Interestingly, they also have some of the best young talents. Young players like Ruben Dias (23), Phil Foden (20), Ferran Torres (20) and Gabriel Jesus (23) are some of their high profile names who have regularly feature for the Cityzens.
4. Chelsea FC - 25.9 years
Next up on the list are Chelsea FC. The London-based club have signed several top but young talents in the summer transfer window after achieving fourth-place last year with many academy graduates like Mason Mount (21), Callum Hudson-Odoi (20) and Tammy Abraham (23).
Frank Lampard has included more young talents into the starting XI by signing the likes of Kai Havertz (21), Timo Werner (24), Ben Chilwell (23) who join Christian Pulisic (22) in a team of highly talented players which will surely help the club challenge for the title in the coming years.
3. Manchester United - 25.8 years
Heading into top-three, Manchester United is the next club on the list who have a squad with an average age of 25.8 years. They have fielded the third youngest squad in this term yet. Under the leadership of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, 20-time league winners have now shifted their focus towards signing young players rather than signing already established older players.
The thinking behind this strategy is that the club expects Ole to bring back the glory days by utilising and developing exceptional young talents that will grow into world beaters of tomorrow. Some of their regular starters include the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka (22), Scott Mctominay (23), Marcus Rashford (23) and Mason Greenwood (19).
2. Aston Villa - 25.4 years
Aston Villa may have avoided relegation in the 2019/20 season, but have looked like a rejuvenated side in the 2020/21 season, which is a sign of their second youngest squad in the league finding consistency. The seven-time league winners have recruited well and largely depend on their attacking prowess to win games.
Ezri Konsa (23), Matty Cash (23), Douglas Luiz (22), Jack Grealish (25), Ollie Watkins (24) are some of their regular starters. Credits needs to be given to their manager, Dean Smith, who has utilised these young players well and stuck to his philosophy of playing entertaining attacking football.

1. Brighton & Hove Albion - 25.3 years
Finally, the label of the youngest squad that has been fielded this term in the PL goes to Brighton & Hove Albion. Graham Potter has perfectly utilised the brimming potential that the squad has, which plays some of the most pleasing football in the league. The Seagulls are now in their fourth-consecutive year in the top-flight and will aim to break into the top-half of the table.
BHFC’s best young players are also some of the most crucial players in their starting lineup. These are Tariq Lamptey (20), Ben White (23), Leandro Trossard (25), Aaron Connolly (20) and Neal Maupay (24) among others.
