Former East Bengal and Mohun Bagan player arrested for smuggling Cannabis

Kolkata Police arrested former West Bengal captain Amzad Ali Khan for smuggling of Cannabis on Wednesday. Khan, an esteemed footballer back in the day, had played for all three of Kolkata giants- East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting during his career.
According to reports, Khan was arrested for allegedly smuggling Cannabis along with three of his associates, Harpreet Singh, Balbinder Singh and Amit Roy, by a Special Task Force of the city police. The former West Bengal captain was said to be smuggling 545 kilograms of Cannabis in a truck and if proven guilty, may face incarceration for multiple years.
Ali represented West Bengal from 2002-2008, during which he was also given the captain's armband. According to reports, Ali was returning to his home in Hooghly district's Jangipara, when the police, alerted by a tip, searched his truck and recovered a huge amount of cannabis.

[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]Ali also captained the Indian side in the U-16 Asian Sub-Junior Cup Qualifiers in 2000 against Pakistan. He also scored in the IFA Shield in 2003, playing for East Bengal.
According to the police, the substance was brought from Manipur and there is also a possibility of uncovering more associates in the coming days.
