15 players from France’s 2026 World Cup squad have been named in Zidane’s first squad

The French national football team is entering a new era under head coach Zinedine Zidane. After making it to back-to-back semifinals in the last three editions of the FIFA World Cup, France have arguably been one of the most consistent teams in the world.

Didier Deschamps, one of the very few legends to have won the FIFA World Cup both as a player and coach, has now passed on the baton to his former teammate from the French national team and Juventus.

Les Bleus, who clinched a fourth spot in the FIFA World Cup 2026, have been drawn alongside four-time world champions Italy, Belgium and Turkiye in the UEFA Nations League.

Ahead of the big games, France have retained their core group of players from the World Cup, including the likes of captain Kylian Mbappe, Mike Maignan, Dayot Upamecano and Ousmane Dembele.

Apart from that, several new names like Guillaume Restes, Eduardo Camavinga and Lucas Da Cunha have been called up. Several players have also been omitted from Zidane’s first squad.

The list includes Theo Hernandez, Lucas Hernandez, Brice Samba and N’Golo Kanté. William Saliba, Tchouameni and Marcus Thuram are reportedly not fully fit and available for the upcoming international fixtures.
