Fulham reluctantly saw their talismanic striker and main goal-getter Aleksandar Mitrovic leave the club in the summer, with the Serbian heading to the Saudi Pro League in a big-money move. The Cottagers replaced the outgoing Mitrovic with Raul Jimenez of Wolves, but goals have been hard to come by, and Fulham’s woes are worsening.

Fulham are one of the lowest-scoring teams in the Premier League, having scored just ten goals in twelve games. This, in part, has led them to be a team in danger of being relegated, according to Premier League betting odds, so manager Marco Silva hopes to reverse their fortunes by acquiring a new attacker in the upcoming January transfer window, with Flamengo’s Pedro a reported target.

Pedro, 26, has a stunning goalscoring record in South America. He’s scored a century of goals in 211 appearances for his current employers, with twenty-three assists to go with all the goals. The Brazilian international also hit twenty goals and three assists in sixty appearances for Fluminense, too. So, his goalscoring record stands up to scrutiny. The striker did have a spell with Serie A outfit Fiorentina but never really got a chance to impress.

What Pedro is renowned for is his finishing ability, which is a real strength of his game. It’s this that Silva will believe can make the difference for Fulham right now, with Jimenez, Carlos Vinicius, and Rodrigo Muniz not being out-and-out goalscorers who can fire the club to safety. Pedro can also be a focal point in attack, as he stands at 6’0 tall, which will always see him fit into how Silva wants his Fulham side to play. They would, in some ways, be able to play more like they did when Mitrovic was leading the line.

Flamengo have long realised they have an asset in Pedro, so they have a substantial buyout clause inserted into his contract that is believed to be €60 million. While the Brazilian outfit could be willing to accept a lower offer than the €60 million clause states, they’re unlikely to let him leave on the cheap, with offers even in the region of €30 million set to be knocked back immediately. So Fulham would have to stump up the cash if they’re to acquire the prolific goalscorer anytime soon.

Fulham do have alternative options, with a wealth of strikers out there. But in their precarious position, they do need to sign the right one. The Cottagers have the funds to strengthen, and Silva will be desperate to add what he feels is the missing piece to the puzzle this season. Goals are that missing piece. Mitrovic weighed in with fourteen in twenty-four in the Premier League last term, whereas, after twelve games this season, only three players have managed to score more than once – Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Carlos Vinicius and Joao Palhinha – with all three on two goals apiece. So a goalscorer is needed, and he’s needed urgently.
