Ghana starting lineup vs Colombia confirmed for FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match

Colombia will face Ghana for the first time in the FIFA World Cup.

Ghana’s journey in the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been dramatic. They were situated in Group L of the tournament alongside hot favourites England, 2018 runners-up Croatia, and Panama.

In the first game, they secured a narrow 1-0 win over Panama, courtesy of a goal from Caleb Yirenkyi in the added time (90+5′). They later played a 0-0 draw against Thomas Tuchel’s England. The Black Stars gave a defensive masterclass against the Three Lions, who took 19 shots and maintained 78 per cent possession.

The Three Lions also set an unwanted record as they became the nation to have the most possession in a match without scoring a goal; earlier, this record was held by Türkiye, who also failed to score in their two opening games at the World Cup.

In the final game, they faced Croatia. Petar Sucic broke the deadlock in the 31st minute for Vatreni before Derrick Luckassen scored an equaliser for the Black Stars in the second half (73′). However, Croatia had the last laugh in the fixture as Nikola Vlasic scored in the 83rd minute, helping the 2018 runner-ups secure a much-needed victory.

The Black Stars finished third in Group L with four points after three games. As a result, they are up against the champions of Group K.

Thoughts on the lineup

There are no fresh injury concerns for the Black Stars; however, Lawrence Ati-Zigi remains out with a groin injury. Benjamin Asare will start in the goal, while Marvin Senaya and Gideon Mensah will play as the full-backs.

Jonas Adjetey will partner with Joseph Opoku in the centre-back duo. Thomas Partey will be the lone holding midfielder, with Caleb Yirenkyi and Kwasi Sibo operating in more advanced roles ahead of him. Antoine Semenyo and Kamaldeen Sulemana will feature as the wingers, while captain Jordan Ayew will lead the attack.
