Calangute hammer hammer Bardez to win local derby
Dominic Fernandes played an influential role in his team's victory with a hat-trick and an assist.
Calangute Association registered an easy 4-1 win over Bardez FC in the Bardez derby of the Goa Professional League played at Duler Stadium on Thursday afternoon. Dominic Fernandes scored a hattrick while Sacidanand Satelkar scored the other goal for the Beachsiders. Richard Cardoz scored the lone goal for Bardez.
Both the teams had lost to Corps of Signals in their last matches as Calangute went down by a 4-1 margin while Bardez lost 3-1 to the Army side. Whereas, Bardez had registered an easy 3-1 win over Calangute in the last meetup.
Calangute took just two minutes to create their first chance of the match as their skipper Dominic Fernandes tried his luck from the top of the box but his strike missed the target by a whisker. They had another chance to open their tally in the seventh minute when Dominic made a superb chip-pass in the box but unmarked Mohammed Shashad and Sachidanand Satelkar failed to capitalise on an easy chance.
After wasting few more opportunities, Calangute finally found the opener in the 15th minutes when Sanket Jotkar brilliantly chested down Shashad’s cross from the left and released it to well-placed Dominic whose shot from the edge of the box entered the far post to make it 1-0 for the Beachside.
Bardez took 40 minutes to come close to scoring as Richard Cardoz nicely curled the ball to Carl D’Souza in the box from the freekick but the midfielder saw his flicked missed the target by a whisker. They had another opportunity to level back in the 45th minute but this time Richard’s sparkling shot from the distance was divingly pushed for a corner by Calangute keeper Sanij Bugde.
Bardez regrouped at the half time and came out stronger in the second session as they made continues raids on the opponents from the start. In one of these, Richard once again set up Carl in the box but the midfielder shot went over the crossbar from 6-yards.
At the other end, Calangute doubled their lead at the hour mark as Runal Shirodkar’s cross was headed by Dominic but it hit the Bardez defender and fell into his feet only. Dominic later made no mistake to finish the ball in the back of the net from close to make it 2-0.

Bardez refused to give up even after conceding second and reduce their margin within next five minutes as carl made a through pass to winger Ricard who covered some ground and shot from inside the box which deflected off Calangute defender Gaurav Vaigankar and crashed in his own goal.
The last 10 minutes saw, Calangute trying to build up pressure on the opponents as they made series of attacks as first, Runal made a low cross from the right flank to Sachidanand whose shot rebound off the crossbar from point-blank range. A very next minute, Akash Sanadi’s goalbound shot was brilliantly blocked by Bardez keeper Elesh Shirvoikar.
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]Elesh came with two brilliant saves in the next two minutes as he first made a diving effort to push Jason Lucas’ shot for a corner, while Sachidanand was blocked in one-on-one by the Bardez custodian in the dying minutes.
However, Sachidanand made up for his last two missed chances as the winger made an easy tap-in to Dominic’s low cross from the right making it 3-1 for his side in the added time. While Dominic completed his hattrick just before the fulltime whistle as he tapped above onrushing Bardez keeper Elesh for Calangute’s fourth goal.
