Vasco SC announce squad for Goa Pro League 2020-21
The club also announced a strong 25-member squad for the upcoming season.
Vasco SC begin their pursuit for their seventh Goa Professional League title as they take on joint defending champions Churchill Brothers FC at the Duler Stadium, on Saturday. The club also announced a strong 25-member squad for the Goa Professional League.
The Port Towners who have undergone a major shakeup in the squad in the winter and have signed some seasoned campaigners through Joaquim Abranches and Francis Fernandes to add on to their experienced lot of Sanwil D’Costa, Anil Gaonkar and Sanju Thapa as they have already shown how serious they are taking this competition this year.
“I have played for some of the biggest clubs in India, but its a real honor for me sport the Vasco SC jersey, a club with a rich history which has won many accolades in past decades,” stated former India International Joaquim Abranches.
Indian Super League winner with Chennaiyin FC Francis Fernandes was delighted with his move to the club and said, “Hailing from the Vasco city it’s a real privilege to play for this club. It’s never too late but I shall give my best for the club in this season to help them achieve what they are aiming at. The squad here is good and I would be happy to share my experience with the youngsters.”
The arrivals of these players with such calibre has boosted Vasco SC squad, bringing on right balance in the team.
Vasco SC coach Micky Fernandes said, “I am happy that Abranches and Francis have joined us this year and I am sure they will help us achieve are season target. We are ready for the season as we had a good preseason despite having short one. My players have responded positively throughout and I hope they show similar spirit in the league,”
The club also signed Denil Rebello and Karan Shirodkar from Salgaocar FC, Kuldeep Kumar from Southern Samity Kolkata, Devendra Pilankar and Desmon Gama from FC Goa, Hafiz Ur Rehman from PIFA Colaba and Sevelon Fernandes and Alson Fernandes.
“We have gathered the best lot of players from across the State and country and we are challenging for the GPL title and will try for the best this year as our target is to participate in the Second Division I-League,” stated Club director Ravish Narvekar.
