Sesa, Calangute play out goalless stalemate in Goa Pro League

The Academy Boys registered their fifth draw in six matches.
Sesa Football Academy and Calangute Association played out a goalless draw in the Goa Professional League on Saturday evening.
Calangute, who lost to Dempo SC in the last match had four changes to the starting XI. Paramveer Singh, Aniket Thakur, Frazer Viegas and Veron Pereira made starts. On the other hand, Minesh Kunkolkar was the lone change for Sesa, who held Sporting in the last match.
After probing attacks, it was Sesa who came close to scoring first in the 17th minute. Mahammed Faheez tried to find his teammate Minesh from a free-kick. However, Calangute defender Umesh Pujar made a timely interception to keep his side safe. A few minutes later, they had another opportunity, as Vishnu Gosawi nicely curled the ball to Faheez in the box. But, this time Calangute keeper Paramveer came off his line to collect the ball before Faheez could do any damage.

At the other end, Calangute also had a chance to surge ahead just after the half hour mark. Chaitan Dabholkar sent a cut-back to Jovito Fernandes, who beat all the defenders in the box with a dummy move and left it to unmarked Ganesh Thakur. However, his strike deflected off a Sesa defender and went out for a corner. Calangute came close to scoring once again towards the end of the first half. Nickson Castana’s curling free-kick was flicked towards Umesh by Jesloy Moniz, but the latter shot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.

On crossing over, it was Sesa once again to look at the goal as Faheez easily dribbled past a few opponents and tried his luck from the edge of the box only to see it missed by hairline distance.
Calangute had a golden opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty. Sesa defender Sridharnath Dyaneshwar handled the ball. However, golakepeer Roanal Gauncar saved substitute Moises D’sa’s spot-kick.
Sesa also had a chance to find the net in the dying minutes. Kunal Salgaonkar found Janak Kudmal in the box who smartly chested it down before blasting it, but Calangute keeper Paramveer once again left his line to thwart the midfielder in one-on-one.
