Calangute Association edge Guardian Angel SC in Goa Pro League
This was their second defeat in three games.
Calangute Association secured their first win of Goa Pro League 2021-22 after beating Guardian Angel Sports Club 1-0 on Monday.
Angel coach Riston Rodrigues made no changes to the side, which held Sporting Clube de Goa to a goalless draw. Young forward Jovito Fernandes was the lone change for the Beachside, who lost to Salgaocar FC in their previous match.
It was the Angels, who had the first real opportunity to take the lead in the 10th minute. But Peter Carvalho's header from Gilbert Oliveira set-piece was straight at Calangute keeper Presley Mascarenhas.

Calangute swiftly replied with a counter-attack as their midfielder Moese D’Sa tried his luck from the top of the box. However, he was denied by Angels keeper Shivam Pednekar with a diving effort. The Beachside club, however, drew the first blood in the 20th minute when a square by Calvin Baretto was smashed home by Ganesh Thakur.
A few minutes later, they came close to doubling their lead. Calvin almost found Jovito with a low cross inside the box, but the young forward couldn’t reach the ball. Down by a goal, Angels brought in Joaquim Abranches to add more attacking impetus to the side. The seasoned forward nearly produced the equaliser in the 41st minute. Fedrich Fernandes found him with a curled cross inside the Calangute box. However, Abranches headed straight to Calangute goalkeeper Presley from close.
Calangute should have doubled their lead at the start of the second half. But substitute Chaitan Dabholkar failed to connect Godfray Mascarenhas' cross from the goalmouth distance. Calangute had another opportunity in the 50th minute as Moses once again tried his luck from the edge of the box and was once again denied by Guardian Angel keeper Shivam. However, Calvin pounced on the opportunity to find the net on the rebound. But, their joy though didn't last long with the assistant referee raising his flag for offside.

At the other end, Angel SC came close to finding the equaliser in the 68th minute when Fulganco Cardozo sent a long ball to Joaquim, who found Gopi Gad in the box. However, Gopi failed to find the net despite only having the goalkeeper to beat. Two minutes later, Fulganco found Joaquim with another cross. But once again the forward headed straight to Calangute keeper Presley.
Calangute wasted two more chances to double their lead in the dying minutes of the match. First Shivam denied Calvin, whose sparkling strike from the edge of the box was headed for goal. Minutes later, the custodian once again rescued his side when Ganesh send substitute forward Vaibhav Naik through on goal with a defence-splitting pass. However, Shivam came off his line to thwart the forward in a one-on-one situation.
