YC Manora drub Guardian Angels in eight-goal thriller in Goa Pro League
The win helped the Salcete-based side climb to the ninth position in the table with six points from five matches.
Youth Club of Manora secured their second win in Goa Pro League 2021-22 after squeezing past Guardian Angels Sports Club by a 5-3 margin on Wednesday.
Md Farid scored four (9, 21, 37 & 70) goals for the winners, while substitute Vijay Rathod scored the other goal. For the Angels, substitutes Yunal Fernandes, Joaquim Abarnches and Peter Carvalho got themselves on the scoresheet.
Manora coach Norbert Gonsalves made three changes to his side which lost to Dempo SC in the previous match. Defender Joywin Carneiro, Eldon Colaco and Alent Colaco made starts. Angels coach also made few changes to their side following a defeat against Velsao SCC. Peter Carvalho and Velroy Carvalho returned into the starting XI for the Curchorem-based side.

Manora, who lost 4-0 in their previous match, made a great start against Guardian Angels. They needed just nine minutes to take the lead. Prosenjit Chakroborty found Md Qais Khan with a corner, who in turn made an attempt in the goal. However, Guardian Angels keeper Shivam Pednekar made a timely save to deny him. Shivam, however, couldn't deny Md Farid, who made no mistake from to tap the ball home.
The Salcete-based team once again surprised the opponents in the 21st minute. Angels keeper Shivam made a blunder in the box as he failed to collect Rajinder Kumar’s long free-kick. Farid quickly grabbed the ball and fired it into the empty net to double the lead for Manora. A few minutes later, they had another chance to increase their lead. Prosenjit made a through pass to Eldon, who covered some ground before blasting it from inside the box. However, this time Shivam managed to clear the danger.
Shivam could not save his team from conceding the third goal in the 37th minute. Eldon snatched the ball from Nicholas Rodrigues and passed it to Farid, who made it 3-0. Two minutes later, Manora once again came up with a swift attack as Joywin found Arghya Roy in the box, but keeper Shivam made a brilliant save to deny the midfielder.

Angels also had a chance to reduce the margin in the 42nd minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. Manora defender Joywin brought down Sahil Bhokare in the box leading to the penalty. But Manora goalkeeper Md Tarique made a brilliant dive to save Gilbert Oliveira's spot-kick.
In the second half, Angels showed the urgency to get back in the match. They launched a number of attacks on the opposition half but failed to find the net. Tarique came up with another brilliant save to deny Rosario Mendes. Rosario soon found himself in a commanding position to reduce the margin, but his header off a Nicholas cross went wide. A few minutes later, Velroy found Yunal Fernandes with a cross, but the lad couldn’t control his shot.

Angels finally managed to find the net in the 55th minute. Sahil found Yunal inside the box and the latter made no mistake to bring down the margin to 3-1. Angels scored a second 13 minutes later with substitute Joaquim Abranches slotting home from a rebound after Tarique had initially denied Sahil.
When it was looking like the Curchorem-based side will get back into the match with another goal, Manora once again extended their lead in the 70th minute. Arghya set up Farid with just the keeper to beat and the latter made no mistake to make it 4-2.
Angels, once again reduced the margin within the next two minutes. Peter Carvalho brilliantly headed in Nicholas’s well-taken corner making it 4-3. However, Manora restored their two-goal lead in added time. Substitute forward Vijay Rathod found the net from close off short pass by Jason Barbosa .
