Velsao, for the first time in the season managed to keep a clean-sheet

Velsao Sports and Cultural Club stunned FC Goa 1-0 as they recorded their first win in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Sunday.

After giving away games even after take lead, Velsao, for the first time in the season managed to keep a clean-sheet and record a win over the defending champions FC Goa.

Jesloy Moniz scored the lone goal in the 48th minute. Roanal Gaunkar rushed out to thwart away danger when he reached out to FC Goa’s Hayden Fernandes’ long ball to Flan Gomes was collected before the later could connect.

In the 10th minute, Velsao’s Kashinath Rathod came close to scoring but he connected to Inacio’s corner kick but the keeper saved it. In the 15th minute, Velsao’s Roanal Gaunkar came with a great save when he blocked Aaron D’Silva’s effort which he headed in a Hayden Fernandes corner.

Hayden played deep for FC Goa to give added support to their back line and pushed long balls upfront. In the final quarter of first half, FC Goa were gaining momentum as they used their flanks to find the breakthrough.

Crossing over in the 47th minute second half substitute Jesloy Moniz who replaced Ronaldo Coelho scored off an unexpected counter. FC Goa were pressing upfront which forced entire Velsao’s side to withdraw.

Leander’s shot at Velsao’s goal rebounded off a Velsao player and fell to Jesloy who was left unmarked. The lad ran down from the centre and scored past Antonio Da Silva, 1-0.

An unexpected goal at the start of the second half. In the 64th Minute, Kingslee nearly found the equalizer when he was fed by Nestor Dias at the face of the goal, but the former’s effort pushed for a corner by the Velsao keeper Roanal. Velsao had a chance to score when Antonio’s poor clearance fell into Remedious Vaz’s path but the lad couldn’t threaten the keeper as his left foot shoot was easily collected by the keeper.

At the other end, FC Goa came close to scoring when Sweden Fernandes played a dangerous ball in the box, but the keeper Roanal punched the ball before FC Goa’s Aaren could connect his header. Later, Velsao’s Kashinath tried his luck from distance but went straight to the keeper.
