The Green are top of the table following three straight wins.
Salgaocar FC continued their winning streak as they trounced Velsao Sports and Cultural Club 3-0 in the Goa Pro League match played at Duler Stadium on Monday.
Velsao had two changes to their side which drew with Sesa FA in the last match. Velington Almeida and Brian Mascarenhas replaced Frazer Viegas and Ganesh Thakur respectively. Whereas, Salgaocar tactician Levino Pereira also made four changes from their 5-0 win against Churchill Brothers. Stephen Alvares, Prathamesh Satardekar, Shayne Rodrigues and Aaron Barretto started for the Greens.
The match was restricted to midfield play for first 30 minutes. But, it swung into action with a swift attack from the Greens. Midfielder Selwyn Miranda tried to setup his teammate with a dangerous ball in the box, but Velsao keeper Presley Mascarenhas made a timely clearance.
However, Salgaocar surged ahead in the 39th minute. Selwyn once again sent a perfect cross in the box which was smartly connected by subsitute Stephen Satarkar to make it 1-0.
A few minutes later, Velsao had a chance to level back when they were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position, but Romil Azaveeo saw his shot miss the target by a whisker. The rest of the half was dictated by Salgaocar with continuous attacks from both flanks. But, they could not manage to double their lead until the half-time whistle.
The Greens' duo Stephen and Selwyn continued their attacks after changing sides. In one of their attacks, Selwyn went for glory, but Romil came to rescue his side with a clearance off the line.
However, the Greens doubled their lead in the 78th minute. Taking advantage of the sloppy defence, Steflon D'Costa setup Valentino with long cross. He covered some ground and squared it to an unmarked Stephen in the box. The substitute forward made no mistake to tap the ball home to make it 2-0 for his side.
Pumped up by the goal, Salgaocar found their third goal within the next 10 minutes. Ribhav Sardesai' floated cross found Valentino with just Velsao keeper Presley to beat. The substitute midfielder kept his composure and made no mistake to beat the onrushing keeper and make it 3-0.
