Sporting Clube de Goa scored the first from a short corner taken by Dattaraj Gaonkar to George D’Souza whose loss cross in the box was poorly dealt by FC Goa defence. The loose ball travelled to Peter Carvalho, whose shot was again not dealt by the rival defence and Philip Odogwu who was lurking in the box, shot home from close range. Thereafter, Opi was presented with a chance from a free kick on the left and he forced the opposition keeper into tipping his goal bound shot above the bar. The Gaurs grew in confidence as the half progressed and really should have levelled after Christy found Sweden with an inch perfect ball over the defence. The winger chested the ball down, charged at goal but smashed it well above the crossbar. Sporting however, hit straight back and nearly doubled their lead when Marcus Mascarenhas headed at goal from a free-kick which goalkeeper Dylan did well to stop. It was end to end stuff towards the end of the first period with both teams looking to nick a goal. However, neither side was able to trouble the scorers before time ran out. However, the skipper made up for his mistake a couple minutes later after a good cross from the left was tapped in from two yards out to double Sporting’s lead. Stendly Fernandes cross from the left was guided home by the skipper Marcus Mascarenhas.
