Hero Intercontinental Cup 2023: India's head-to-head record against Lebanon
This will be the seventh encounter between the two sides.
The encounter between India and Lebanon on 15th June at the Kalinga Stadium will be the most anticipated match of the Hero Intercontinental Cup for multiple reasons.
Firstly, Lebanon and India are the two highest ranked teams in the competition. While the Cedars are placed 99th currently in the FIFA Men’s rankings, the Blue Tigers are placed 101st. If the proximity of their rankings is anything to go by, fans can expect a closely fought battle at the Kalinga.
This match will be key to Igor Stimac’s vision for the AFC Asian Cup next year as Lebanon could be the only higher ranked team the side faces in the build up to the Asian Cup in Qatar.
Another reason the India-Lebanon clash will be awaited is the fact that this will be the last match of the group phase at the Hero Intercontinental Cup.
Lebanon’s form is disappointing, to say the least. In their last five matches, the Cedars have lost all five (to Syria, Iran, Kuwait, UAE, Oman) - conceding 10 goals and scoring ZERO! However, in the Hero Intercontinental Cup they have won a game against Vanuatu and drawn one against Mongolia.
The Men in Blue will definitely favour their chances against Aleksandar Ilić’s Men in Red based on their current form. But the overall head-to-head record between the two national teams tells a different story.
India and Lebanon have faced off a total of six times and India have only managed to secure one victory.

Although India and Lebanon don’t have much history, managers Igor Stimac and Aleksandar Ilić share a relationship that goes back to 1994, where the former helped his Serbian counterpart who had arrived on loan at Cádiz CF, to adapt to the new environment. On June 15, Stimac will hope to get the better of his former teammate.
