The Tigers take down the Red Devils on their Premier League return!

Hull City locked horns with Manchester United for their opening game of the Premier League 2026-27 campaign. The MKM Stadium witnessed this intense clash between these English clubs.

The Sergej Jakirović-led side were quite impressive against one of the biggest English clubs. They took the lead early in the game and doubled it in the first half itself. Despite the Red Devils having the majority of possession of the ball, Hull City made sure not to miss out on the chances they got.

The newly promoted club tested Manchester United and pushed them to the limits. Michael Carrick’s men need a lot of improvement now. During the previous season, they only lost two games away from home, but in the Premier League 2026-27 campaign, they lost their opening fixture at the MKM Stadium.

Important things we learned from Hull City vs Manchester United:

Catch Every Update, Anytime, Anywhere

1. Early questions for Michael Carrick

Of course, a single defeat does not define a season, but this was not at all what Manchester United were looking for in a start. The Red Devils have dropped three points in their opening game of the Premier League 2026-27 season. Their midfield struggled to control the transitions. The defence was not sharp at all and in the final third, they did not look well organised.

2. Hull City made a perfect statement

After their return to the English Premier League after almost 10 years, the Tigers came up with an energetic and fearless display that overwhelmed one of the league’s biggest clubs. Hull City could hardly have dreamed of a better return. They were quite impressive in the midfield and on the attacking front. Their defence passed a stern test, and they were able to secure a clean sheet.

3. Konstantinos Tzolakis’ heroics

Konstantinos Tzolakis was very calm and composed between the posts whenever Manchester United attacked. The newly signed goalkeeper quite literally impressed every Hull City fan on his Premier League debut for the club. It can be considered a dream debut in one of the finest football leagues in the world. The strong backline helped him quite well.

4. New recruits under pressure

Youri Telemans and Andrey Santos were officially on the field for the first time in Manchester United colours, but their debut with the club did not go the way they expected. The new joinees failed to dictate the tempo and this kept the backline exposed on multiple occasions.

5. The Red Devils’ attack failed

Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbuemo and Patrick Dorgu were the first choice for Michael Carrick in the attacking front for Manchester United. Neither of these names were good enough to breach Hull City’s defence at the MKM Stadium. At halftime, Marcus Rashford entered the field, but was ineffective. Benjamin Sesko came off the bench, but failed to leave a mark.

Who is Hull City’s manager?

Sergej Jakirović.
