The 23-year-old has previously played for NorthEast United as well.
Sudeva FC have signed centre-back Gursimrat Singh Gill on a two-year contract to bolster their defensive setup ahead of the forthcoming I-League season. The 23-year-old is currently associated with FC Bengaluru United in the qualifying tournament that is being held in Kolkata. The Delhi-based club announced the player’s arrival on their official Facebook page.
“Gursimrat was a born sportsman. While his father wished for him to play hockey, his inclination for football & his hard work made him enter the AIFF Elite Academy and later on sign for Bengaluru FC. We are happy to have him on our team & excited to hear his experiences on the field,” the statement read.
Gill was honed at the Chandigarh Football Academy from 2007 to 2012. He was then picked by the AIFF Elite Academy and was instrumental in their I-League U-19 Championship victory in 2014-15. The defender has represented India at various junior age-group levels. Bengaluru FC signed him in August 2016 and he represented the club twice in the group stages of AFC Cup 2017.
Later on, Gursimrat Singh Gill had a brief stint with NorthEast United before moving back to the Blues in 2018. Overall, the centre-back has made 12 appearances in the Indian Super League. He has recorded 16 tackles, four interceptions and 23 clearances in these games. Moreover, he has registered 10 blocks and has a decent passing accuracy of 70.5%. Despite emerging as one of the top talents in the country, the Punjab-based player has found playing time hard to come by in the last few years.
He has been on the bench for the better part of his professional career and hence the ex-NEUFC defender would be eager to play on a more regular basis. At Sudeva, Gursimrat Singh Gill will arguably be a regular starter and that could enable him to make some much-needed strides ahead. The team from Delhi have also signed the likes of Kean Lewis and Pintu Mahata to fine-tune their squad for their maiden I-League campaign.
