Renedy Singh joins NEROCA FC as head coach

The Indian football great replaces Spaniard Manuel Fraile in the role.

NEROCA FC have dispensed with the services of coach Manuel Retamero Fraile following the 2018/19 I League season, where they finished mid-table in sixth position.

In an official twitter announcement, the club revealed that former Indian international Renedy Singh was taking up the vacated seat instead.

NEROCA FC appoint Renedy Singh as new head coach

Having made their I-League second division debut in 2016/17, the club won the league in the following year, thus winning promotion to the I League, where they have been a mainstay ever since. NEROCA came second in the league standings in last season, which Minerva Punjab won and went till the quarterfinals of the Super Cup.

However, their performances this season haven’t been up to the mark. Having played 20 games this season, the Orange Brigade only won seven, while losing eight and drawing five.

Even in their final top flight match this season, Real Kashmir beat them 3-2, which helped the Snow Leopards bag the third place spot in the league.

Former Indian footballer Renedy Singh who has an AFC A licence has now been appointed as the man to lead the Orange Brigade in light of Fraile’s departure. Renedy was a distinguished midfielder in his career and was one of the most underrated players of this generation.

Extremely lethal on the dead ball and with a spectacular ability to deliver balls into the box, he enjoyed the best time of his career with the Mariners between 1996 and 2004.

Singh was also the first Indian to play for a Bulgarian club, when he signed for CSKA Sofia on loan from ISL outfit Kerala Blasters in 2015.

Following this, the midfielder called time on his playing career and decided to pursue coaching badges instead. He also worked as a television pundit for various studio programmes, the most recent one being Star Sport Network’s coverage of the AFC Asian Cup.

With everything said, the 39-year-old will be looking forward to this new challenge in his career and will hopefully be the one to lead the Manipuri club back to glory.
