This clash will mark the first meeting between the two sides, while a very festive mood is gripping Kolkata as security concerns were portrayed before the game, but apart from all the logistical problems, after a long service, the Kolkata outfit returns to one of the biggest tournaments as this is going to be their ninth appearance in an AFC group stage and their first since 2015.

Taking about the East Bengal side, they have recently lost their IFA Shield 2026 Final match in a Kolkata Derby against their arch-rivals Mohun Bagan with a very tested team as Antonio Lopez Habas didn’t show the best brand of football as he did with the same side in the Durand Cup 2026.
After getting a stalemate in their first game against Al-Hussein, they will eye a clinical win at home, as the home advantage might be an upper hand for Rashid & Co, but it’s not only about the environmental support; perhaps, in a high-quality tactical battle like this, it will bring many more dimensions.
Against Al-Shorta, the East Bengal side looks to rely on their defensive shape with a very compact structure, as the Iraqi side has the attacking threat down the wings and in the attack, the end product is the most important thing as missed chances cost heavily when they face Mohun Bagan in their last IFA Shield game. With a win at home will surely boost the team’s morale and also mathematically put the Red & Gold side in a very strong position in a test like this.
