The Stakes

FC Goa

FC Goa vs FC Regar-TadAZ Preview - Lineups, Team News | AFC Challenge League 2026-27
FC Goa will begin their AFC Challenge League campaign on October 17.

FC Goa are poised to play in the AFC Challenge League for the first time in their history this season, having plenty of experience of playing Asian football over the last few years.

Because of the short gap between matches in the Challenge League group stages, the Gaurs will need to be at their proactive best across the space of a week to be able to dominate their group.

Gouramangi Singh needs to have his players maintain a really compact shape to be able to hold their own against Regar-TadAZ and strongly compete in the clash.

He also needs them to be efficient on the transitions, be innovative in creating chances and most importantly – finish off the opportunities in ruthless fashion.

A big win for FC Goa in their AFC Challenge League opener will definitely be a major confidence booster for the players, but suffering a loss in their first game could have a negative impact on their qualification hopes.

Regar-TadAZ

FC Goa vs FC Regar-TadAZ Preview - Lineups, Team News | AFC Challenge League 2026-27
Regar-TadAZ will face the Gaurs on October 17.

Regar-TadAZ have been able to qualify for the AFC Challenge League thanks to their Tajikistan Cup title win last season and they are aiming to make their country proud in the competition this time around.

Regar-TadAZ have plenty of experience in playing Asian Football over the course of the 21st century and they even played in the AFC Challenge League last season – getting eliminated in the group stages.

That is probably why Alisher Tukhtaev’s side will be gunning for a much more impactful outing in the competition this time around, as they look to start the group stages in a positive manner.

Tukhtaev will have to shape his side to be able to keep a really sturdy defensive shape to frustrate the Gaurs, and also needs them to be sharp and incisive in their attacking patterns to be able to break things down in the opposition half.

Being able to defeat FC Goa will mark a perfect start for Regar-TadAZ and significantly bolster their qualification hopes, but losing the opener itself can cause nervousness to creep into the camp early on.

Team News

Gouramangi Singh is sweating on the fitness levels of midfielder Franchu, who was forced to be substituted in the first half of the 2026-27 Indian Super League (ISL) opener against Chennaiyin FC.

Regar-TadAZ also have a fit enough squad available for their AFC Challenge League group stages.

Players to Watchout

Chiki (FC Goa)

FC Goa vs FC Regar-TadAZ Preview - Lineups, Team News | AFC Challenge League 2026-27
Chiki will be key for FC Goa in the AFC Challenge League opener.

Chiki was able to make an immediate impact in his ISL debut for FC Goa, scoring a clutch goal in their recent draw against Chennaiyin FC.

Now, the Spanish striker is aiming to be a decisive factor for the Gaurs in their AFC Challenge League campaign and play a key role in taking them to the knockout stages. The Spanish forward scored six goals for Spanish club Cartagena last season, and has created a reputation for being a menacing threat inside the opposition penalty area.

Chiki will have to be at his ruthless best in the AFC Challenge League matches, starting from the game against Regar-TadAZ.

He’ll need to be clever with his off-the-ball movements and runs into the penalty area, bringing that element of surprise to keep the opposition centre-backs guessing.

He’ll look to be proactive with his link-up play, but the striker’s primary objective will be to get at the end of chances and finishing them off clinically to help them get a big win to start their AFC Challenge League campaign in style.

Manuel Mbollo (Regar-TadAZ)

Manuel Mbollo is poised to spearhead the Regar-TadAZ frontline heading into the clash against FC Goa and there will be major responsibilities for him to be a decisive figure in the final third.

He’ll look to be a menacing threat for the opponents with his powerful presence in opposition half, looking to make smart runs into the final third areas to help his side take the fight to the Gaurs.

Mbollo needs to be at his decisive best in terms of finishing off chances in inspired fashion for him to bring that element of danger to Regar-TadAZ’s attack and ensure that they can really confuse FC Goa as well as disrupt the opposition backline.

The 23-year-old Cameroonian forward will be required to be at his prolific best in terms of finishing off chances clinically to give his side the edge against the Indian side and help them kick off their group stages with a win.
