Al-Qadsia SC vs FC Goa: Player battles that can decide AFC Challenge League 2026-27 match

A do-or-die clash for the Gaurs

FC Goa must win this game to qualify for the knockouts of the 2026-27 AFC Challenge League

Al Qadsia SC, which finished third in the 2025-26 Kuwaiti Premier League and missed out on qualification for the preliminary stage of the 2026-27 AFC Champions League Two, will face FC Goa in the final group-stage game of Group C in the 2026-27 AFC Challenge League.

The Gaurs, meanwhile, failed to win their preliminary-stage fixture in the 2026-27 AFC Champions League Two.

The game is crucial for both sides as they look to secure qualification for the knockout stages. However, the results they need to achieve are all that differ. For Al Qadsia, a draw would be enough to finish top of the group and qualify as group leaders, while a loss would still keep them in the race to qualify as the best second=placed team thanks to their goal difference.

FC Goa, on the other hand, must win to ensure they finish top of the group, overtaking Qadsia on the head-to-head record. A loss would end their qualification hopes, while a draw would also leave them facing elimination, with their fate dependent on other results and whether competing teams fail to reach four points.

While Al Qadsia are unbeaten in the AFC Challenge League so far, having won both their games, FC Goa began their campaign with a defeat before securing a dramatic win against Fortis FC in their last outing.

As both sides prepare for this crucial clash, letโ€™s look at three key player battles that could play a major role in determining the outcome.

Khaled Al-Fadhli vs Chiki

Chiki scored FC Goaโ€™s goal in the 8th minute of the match.

Chiki has been one of FC Goaโ€™s brightest performers in what has been a lacklustre season so far, especially compared to the high standards they have set over the last two years. While he struggled in his first game against Arkadag FK, he has scored in three consecutive games since then.

He scored the equaliser against Chennaiyin FC, gave the Gaurs the lead against Regar-TadAZ and netted the winner against Fortis FC to keep FC Goaโ€™s knockout hopes alive.

He will face 24-year-old centre-back Khaled Al-Fadhli, who has been a commanding presence at the back for the Kuwaiti side in the 2026-27 AFC Challenge League. Qadsia are yet to concede a goal in their two games, and Al-Fadhliโ€™s towering frame and physical presence have been crucial in stopping opposition attacks.

With Chiki constantly looking to link up play and move out of position to create space for his teammates, Al-Fadhli will hope to use his pace and mobility to minimise Chikiโ€™s impact and secure another clean sheet, helping his side claim three points and progress to the knockout stages.

Abdulrahman Al-Mushaifri vs Ronney Wilson

Al-Qadsia will look to face the Goan side in their last continental stage game.

Al-Mushaifri, deployed on the right wing this season, has been in excellent form, scoring three goals in seven appearances across all competitions. He is also one of the five foreign players registered by the club for the 2026/27 Kuwaiti Premier League.

Having joined Al Qadsia SC from the Czech Republic ahead of the season, he has already demonstrated his excellent dribbling ability and pace on the right flank. He is also a clinical finisher who often drifts into central areas to threaten opposition defences with shots on target to test the keeper.

Given his ability to find space and consistently get into goalscoring positions, Gouramangi Singh will hope Ronney Wilson can track the oppositionโ€™s key attacker and cut off his crossing and passing lanes. This will be particularly important in the absence of Aakash Sangwan, who has been in excellent form this season but missed the previous game through injury.

Although Ronney is not a natural full-back, he has featured regularly in wide defensive areas over the last 18 months. Having previously played as a centre-back, he is a good interceptor and could use his physicality and defensive instincts to deal with an attacker like Al-Mushaifri.

Hamza Khabba vs Sandesh Jhingan

FC Goa are yet to keep a clean sheet this season despite having an experienced defender like Sandesh Jhingan at the heart of their defence. However, much of this can be attributed to the lack of options at full-back and the need for a more experienced option between the sticks.

Although the defence has looked solid for large parts of their AFC Challenge League campaign, lapses in concentration have occasionally led to soft goals and dropped points. The most notable example was their game against Regar-TadAZ, where they conceded twice in the final 10 minutes to lose all three points.

Against a striker like Hamza Khabba, such mistakes could prove costly. The Moroccan forward scored once and provided two assists against Fortis FC. He could also have registered an assist against Regar-TadAZ had Al-Rawahi been more clinical. With two assists in the Kuwaiti Premier League this season, according to the limited data available online, Khabba has already demonstrated how important he is to Qadsiaโ€™s attack.

Khabba is more than just a target man. His movement and physicality make him a threat inside the box, but he also frequently drifts out of position to create space for his wingers. Jhingan must be alert to these movements and, as the leader of the defence, must ensure his teammates remain organised and switched on throughout the 90 minutes.

When is the match between Al-Qadsia SC and FC Goa scheduled to kick-off?

The match between Al-Qadsia SC and FC Goa is scheduled to kick-off at the Mohammed Al-Hamad Stadium in Kuwait on October 23rd at 11:00 PM IST.

Which country is Al-Qadsia SC from?

Al-Qadsia plays their domestic football in Kuwait, competing in the Kuwaiti Premier League.
