AFC Champions League Two Preliminary Stage FC Goa's Rival Watch: FK Arkadag

The Gaurs will play against Turkmenistan’s side on 12th August.

FC Goa are aiming to earn a place in the 2026-27 AFC Champions League Two group stages but face a challenging task against Turkmenistan’s heavyweights FK Arkadag in their preliminary qualifier clash on Wednesday, 12 August (2026).

With this only being a single-match knockout tie, both teams will be approaching it like a grand finale itself to be able to earn a place in the AFC Champions League Two – with the losers of the match finding themselves being compelled to play in the AFC Challenge League instead.

FK Arkadag have been one of the most prominent clubs from Turkmenistan in their short-lived history so far, as they are the reigning Yokary Liga champions and are aiming to assert themselves in the continental championship.

As they boast home advantage for this clash against FC Goa, Arkadag will be pushing to produce a thrilling display to be able to earn a place in the AFC Champions League Two.

About the Team

FK Arkadag were only formed in 2023, with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow – the second president of Turkmenistan – being the club founder himself.

As a lot of financial leverage was added into the deal, the club were able to sign some of Turkmenistan’s best players upon its forming and started dominating the Turkmenistan football scenario from the get-go.

Despite being just around three years old or so, Arkadag have been a dominant force in the Turkmenistan football scene.

They have won the Yokary Liga title in three successive campaigns, as well as winning the Turkmenistan Cup thrice as well. What is also rather impressive is they’ve been able to hold their own in Asian competition despite only playing at the continental level for a few years.

Indeed, FK Arkadag were able to win the AFC Challenge League in their first time playing in a continental competition in the 2024-25 season. They actually defeated East Bengal in the quarterfinals of that competition, before going all the way to claiming the title.

Last season, they were also able to reach the Round of 16 of the AFC Champions League Two, before losing to Al-Nassr.

Arkadag have a pretty good record for Asian competition matches, having won seven of their 16 matches so far. Despite their short stint as a football club, the White House of Arkadag have made themselves a formidable force in Asian football – all while dominating the Turkmenistan football scene with an iron fist.

Head Coach

FK Arkadag appointed Mergen Orazov as their new head coach earlier in 2026, with the 38-year-old already having a pretty notable managerial career despite his relatively young age.

He began his coaching career at the prominent Turkmenistan side Ahal FK, helping them win the Turkmenistan double in the form of the Yokary Liga as well as the Turkmenistan Cup as well.

The 38-year-old has also gained experience as the Turkmenistan coach, having worked in the role for two years from 2023-2025 before spending a short stint at the Lithuanian club Dainava as well.

The 38-year-old actually has a fascinating history with the game of Futsal as well, having played for the Turkmenistan Futsal national team in the AFC Futsal Championship and having coached the club Kopetdag in Futsal as well – helping them win the Turkmenistan Futsal Super League multiple times.

Orazov prefers to play the 4-2-3-1 formation and he likes his teams to play possession-based football using that style. He likes his teams to build their moves from the back, playing the ball out of their own half using crisp, short passes to beat the opposition press and put them under pressure.

The 38-year-old also prefers his side to install a high, aggressive pressing style to recover possession quickly to be able to deter the opponents on the counter-attack.

For the Turkmenistan gaffer, he will be intent on ensuring Arkadag are able to control possession smartly against FC Goa and dominate key sectors of the pitch. He’ll push them to play some incisive attacking football, all while keeping the major possession and also maintaining defensive sturdiness to keep the Gaurs quiet.

Players to Watchout

Didar Durdyyew

Didar Durdyyew has been a prolific player for FK Arkadag since joining them in their inception year in 2023, after having enjoyed a pretty solid career at other clubs before that. The 33-year-old Turkmenistan forward, who has scored four goals in 28 international appearances, has been a real goal machine for Arkadag over the last three years.

He was their top-scorer in helping the side win the Yokary Liga in the 2023-24 and the 2024-25 season, scoring 27 and 31 league goals respectively in the campaigns.

Didar also has a lot of experience of playing at the continental level, having won the AFC Challenge League with Arkadag and is now eager to help them reach the group stages of the AFC Champions League Two! Didar can be a prolific threat in the final third, using his smart positioning skills and eye for goals to finish off chances explosively from in & around the opposition box.

He’ll look to be a threat for FC Goa with his smart movement, link-up play and look to drive his side into the key areas to enhance their goal-scoring threat against the Gaurs.

Begenc Akmammedow

Another major attacking threat for FK Arkadag in their AFC Champions League Two qualifier against FC Goa is going to be their vibrant attacking midfielder, Begenc Akmammedow. Begench was actually prolific and played a key role in Arkadag winning the Turkmenistan league title in 2025, scoring 17 goals for them in the campaign as well.

Akmammedow will be pushing to trouble the Gaurs with his energetic presence in the midfield, trying to move past the midfielders and sneak his way into the danger zones in the final third.

He’ll look to be proactive in winning the ball in key positions and driving his side forward on the counter-attacks, as well as looking to create big chances. Begenc will, however, need to be at his clinical best in the final third to finish off chances in a prolific fashion to help his side get a big win.

What to expect from FK Arkadag

FK Arkadag are going to be pushing hard to put on a great show for their fans and be able to qualify for the AFC Champions League Two competition in rather compelling fashion. The Turkmenistan giants already have a pretty good record of facing Indian sides in the continental competitions, and they’ll aim to keep that up with an entertaining display in the upcoming clash.

FK Arkadag are going to look to dominate the majority of the possession and also implement a high-pressing style to not allow the Gaurs any free room to maneuver in the key areas.

They’ll look to be much faster in moving the ball forward and putting the Gaurs under pressure, and fans can probably expect them to dominate the lions’ share of possession in this clash as well.

However, Arkadag will need to be clinical in actually finishing off all the chances that come their way in this upcoming clash. If they’re able to tap into their efficient best, then the Turkmenistan side can work their ways towards getting a comfortable victory to earn a place in the notable Asian competition.
