FC Goa vs Al Nassr Player Ratings: Sandesh Jhingan and co get swept away

Saudi heavyweights outclassed the Gaurs in their backyard

FC Goa suffered a comprehensive 0-4 defeat at the hands of Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr at the Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh on Thursday, 6th November 2025.

A fourth consecutive loss in the fourth round of the AFC Champions League 2 group stage for the Gaurs means that they stay rooted to the last spot in Group D, and veritably out of the race to the knockout stages.

Abdulrahman Ghareeb opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a stunning free kick and doubled the lead with a cool finish at the far post in the 53rd minute. After Ghareeb’s brace, FC Goa‘s defense faltered further, and Maran made it three in the 65th minute.

The cherry on the top came with 6 minutes of regulation time left as Sadio Mane floated in a cross that was turned in by Joao Felix through an acrobatic airborne kick.

FC Goa Player Ratings (by Soham Halder)

Hrithik Tiwari – 5

Having conceded four goals, it remains difficult to blame the young Tiwari in goal, as all four goals were relatively difficult to save. The first was a phenomenal dead ball that bounced off the crossbar as he stood motionless.

The following goals were beautifully set up for the goal scorers and very easy to score, irrespective of who was in goal. A tough night for the shot stopper.

Akash Sangwan – 4

Akash Sangwan was left in the dust on a number of occasions today. With the young Brazilian Wesley deployed at the right wing, Sangwan had his task cut out. But the 20-year-old winger found space and time again on the Gaurs’ left-hand side of the area and kept whipping in dangerous crosses.

He was replaced in the 59th minute itself by Jerry Lalrinzuala after what was one of his most forgettable performances.

Ronney Wilson Kharbudon – 4

Young Ronney started the game in a three-man centre back pairing and a five-man backline. Introduced to provide cover to Akash Sangwan, Ronney struggled throughout the entire ninety minutes trying to contain a pacy and youthful Al Nassr attack.

Having joined FC Goa from Shillong Lajong only four months ago, it must be a dream for Ronney to brush shoulders against the great, but tonight was not to be his night as some exasperated clearances were all that he had to show for himself.

Sandesh Jhingan – 5

The lion-hearted defender and skipper was in for a tough shift today. Jhingan constantly found himself in the thick of things. Despite making six clearances and several blocks, the sheer quality with which Al Nassr’s attackers presented themselves was overwhelming for Jhingan and the Gaurs.

He tried to rally the defence, but after the deadlock was broken in the 35th minute and Goa had no attacks to show for themselves, it became progressively difficult for Jhingan to keep things under control.

Pol Moreno – 4

The Spanish centre back was swept away with a tirade of attacks by the Saudi side and failed to keep them at bay after the first half hour.

He won a few duels, but it wasn’t enough as Al Nassr’s young forwards proved to be too much for FC Goa. The third goal saw Moreno get a bad touch on a cross that was then converted by Marran in the 65th minute.

Boris Singh – 4

While the majority of the attacks came from the opposite end, Boris Singh was constantly caught suspect in failing to cover the far post where attackers consistently entered to get on the end of crosses from the likes of Wesley and then Sadio Mane.

Boris had to face Abdulrahman Ghareeb, who produced a man-of-the-match performance with his brace and had Goa’s defence by their throats with his unpredictable movements and a wand of a right foot—hard luck for Boris.

Borja Herrera – 5

Like most of the team, Borja scoured hard for the ball but fell short of keeping it in possession for longer periods. One the busiest playmakers in the Indian Super League, Herrera managed just 53 touches in the entirety of the match.

Borja was toothless in front of Al Nassr’s midfield as he failed to create an opportunity for his forwards or dribble with the ball forward, the trademarks of his natural game.

Brison Fernandes – 4

After what was a dream-like performance from Brison last time against Al Nassr, the young forward failed to make an impact in today’s match. He struggled to get a hold of the ball, much less trouble the opposition goalkeeper.

We couldn’t witness his goalscoring heroics like the last match as Al Nassr had no plans to mess about today. He lost the ball on 8 different occasions and struggled to sustain possession.

Iker Guarrotxena – 5

Probably the hardest-working player on the pitch today, Iker Guarrotxena gave up his usual position as the playmaker and helped out the Gaurs’ defence on several occasions. He dropped deep to try and begin some attacks for the Goan side, but that was not to be the case as Al Nassr were rapid in regaining possession.

Despite his technical ability, he was barely seen on the ball. A solitary shot from him in the 73rd minute flew wide of the goal.

Dejan Drazic – 5

Dejan Drazic produced the most impact for Goa going forward today with two shots to his name. Both were on target, but unfortunately, both were straight at Al-Najjar, and the shot stopper had no problems in doing his job.

The Serbian forward occupied the left wing and tried to launch counterattacks but to no avail. Goa needed a moment of magic to score today, but Drazic failed to provide them one.

Javier Siverio – 4

The Spanish striker had a dreadful game with no shots to show for himself despite being the lone centre forward of the team.

Once straying offside, he lost the ball a staggering thirteen times, much to the dismay of Manolo Marquez, who cut a frustrated figure on the touchline. Despite throwing in three foreign attackers, Goa failed to produce a clear-cut chance to at least salvage a consolation goal.

Substitutes

Jerry Lalrinzuala – 4

Jerry replaced Akash Sangwan as left back after the latter was struggling to stop the crosses from coming in. Jerry did a mildly better job at that as he came on with half an hour to go, but it was not enough.

Sadio Mane made a waltzing run from his channel in the 83rd minute to beautifully set up Joao Felix, who finished with an acrobatic volley into the corner, past a helpless Hrithik Tiwari.

Ayush Chhetri – 4

With an attacking choice clearly failing, Marquez introduced Ayush Chhetri to provide more solidity and pace to the midfield. It did not particularly aid Goa as their base had already been shaken by the marvellous Abulrahman Ghareeb.

Abdul Rabeeh – 4

Rabeeh was introduced by Marquez in place of Guarrotxena essentially to get some minutes on an important continental stage like this.

In the fourth minute of additional time, he found himself in a one-on-one opportunity but shot it straight at the keeper, who pulled off a save.

Sahil Tavora – 5

Tavora came on with only a handful of minutes remaining and could not influence the game to his liking.

Muhammed Nemil – 5

The young and exciting Nemil was introduced with only 5 minutes on the clock and could not produce a moment worth noting.

Al-Nassr Player Ratings (by Saikat Sengupta)

Al Najjar – 7.5

Apart from those few threatening balls from Drazic, the custodian hardly had much to do tonight. He kept a clean sheet tonight against FC Goa.

N Boushal – 8

He made some really good entries into the opposition half with his runs. Boushal gave an easy assist for the third goal.

Al Sharari -7.5

A fairly easy day at the office for Sharari, but he ensured Goa made no serious threat or breached the Saudi defence tonight.

Alamri – 8

A solid captain’s performance from Alamri saw Al Nassr keep a clean sheet against a side that made them grind for a win in the reverse fixture.

S Al Najdi – 7.5

Al Najdi from the left flank was making inroads into the Goan defence and posed a constant threat.

M Maran – 8

Maran’s ingenuity helped Al Nassr get some good set piece opportunities. He scored the third goal after an easy tap in.

Al Khaibari – 7

Khaibari was a dominating presence in the midfield tonight and played a key role in controlling the possession throughout the game.

Wesley – 7

He came agonisingly close to scoring the opener in the 20th minute and missed it by a whisker. Overall, he had a good game tonight.

Alhassan – 7.5

He took a few long range shots in the first few minutes, but were off target. He also missed an easy chance of scoring the second goal. He picked a yellow after a committing a foul.

Abdulrahman Ghareeb – 9.5

Ronaldo would have been so proud to see that direct free kick goal from Ghareeb tonight. He scored the second goal after making a brilliant run. His brace was enough to seal a victory for Al Nassr

Haroune Camara – 6

Camara had a quiet night upfront and missed an easy header that could have made it 3-0 easily.

Joao Felix – 7.5
