AFC Champions League Two: Mohun Bagan Super Giant to face FC Ravshan on September 18

Mohun Bagan will face tough competition from the foreign sides.

Indian football stalwarts Mohun Bagan Super Giant will be the only club featuring in AFC Champions League Two 2024-25. As made official yesterday, the Green and Maroon army will be placed in Group A, battling against – Qatar’s Al-Wakrah, Iranian club Tractor S.C and Tajikistan side Ravshan Kulob.

Now, the Mariners have revealed the dates of all their group-stage matches in the continental competition. The Mariners will be hosting Tajikistan-based club FC Ravshan in the first encounter. The game will be played on September 18, at the iconic Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan.

Up next, they will travel to Tabriz and face Tractor S.C. on 2nd October. The Green & Maroon army will return home to host their third game against Qatar’s Al-Wakrah on October 23. For the return leg fixtures, the Mariners will travel to Al Wakrah’s home ground and play a match on October 26, followed by a game against Ravshan Kulob on 27th November (away), and then host the final group stage game against Tractor SC.

The defending champions are trying every possible move to strengthen their squad, with a special focus on this tournament. They made multiple big money transfers to secure players like Jamie Maclaren, Apuia, and Tom Aldred.

However, things might still not be easy for them in the AFC Champions League Two. The club had to bid goodbye to the coveted AFC Cup from the group stage itself last season. This time with a new coach and a fresher squad, they will be looking to improve their performance.

However, things might be a bit messy in the first game, with the Indian Super League (ISL) set to kick off on September 13 and the continental trophy’s journey to begin just five days later for the Mariners. But, the fixtures aren’t out yet, and it isn’t expected to be harsh on the Mariner’s fortunes.
