FC Goa AFC Champions League Two

Brison scored a historic goal against Al Nassr.

FC Goa, India’s solitary hope in the AFC Champions League Two, were up against the Saudi giants, Al Nassr. The Jeddah outfit had some of the star-studded players in the squad, including the likes of Nations League winner Joao Felix, Liverpool legend Sadio Mane and UCL champion Kingsley Coman.

The match began with Jorge Jesus naming Felix, Coman and Mane on the bench. It took the Saudi giants less than 10 minutes to break the deadlock after Brazilian forward Angelo Gabriel netted the first goal. Camara doubled the lead in the 27th minute, and it seemed that the floodgates were open.

But, much to contrary expectations, FC Goa scored after a brilliant strike from Brison lit up the Goa sky. The first half ended in a 2-1 lead for Al Nassr.

Updated points table after FC Goa vs Al Nassr

After half of the games are played in ACL 2 group stage fixtures, Al Nassr have won every single game so far and are at the summit of Group D with 9 points. So they have almost confirmed their berth in the knockout stage. A win for Istiklol tonight took them to the second spot with 6 points and a negative goal difference.

Al Zawraa faced their second defeat of the campaign tonight and are in the third spot with 3 points and a -1 goal difference. FC Goa are sitting at the bottom after their third defeat of the campaign and will need more than a miracle to finish among the top two.

FC Goa would need more than a miracle in their remaining games to salvage India’s two spots in ACL 2. Despite a strong fight, the Gaurs went down and are yet to clinch a solitary point in the competition so far.

Though their qualification hopes are still alive, they will need to defeat Istiklol and Al Zawraa by a strong goal difference and hopefully clinch something from their away trip to Jeddah.
