AIFF Executive Committee proposes formation of independent judiciary committees

Committees include veteran bureaucrats, election commissioners and senior legal experts.

Indian football is going through a disastrous period, with the future of India’s top division still uncertain. Amidst such unprecedented times, the AIFF Executive Committee has submitted a proposal to formulate independent judiciary committees under the Supreme Court-approved Constitution during its AGM today.

Under the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, the AIFF Constitution mandated the formation of independent judiciary committees that looked after various domains. The AIFF Executive Committee has recommended several veteran bureaucrats, election commissioners and top legal experts of this country.

In this article, we take a look at the roles and responsibilities of all independent judiciary committees and also the people nominated in each committee.

AIFF Election Committee

The Election Committee is responsible for conducting AIFF presidential and executive elections and ensuring a free, fair and transparent electoral process. Appointing former CECs, IAS officers and senior civil servants removes any unnecessary political pressure and manipulations.

AIFF Ethics and Dispute Resolution Committee

The ethics committee keeps a check on corruption allegations and abuse of power and ensures accountability among office bearers. DRC handles contractual disputes, coach club disagreements and more.

At a time when talks of allowing OCI players are ongoing, the AIFF Players’ Status Committee will be tasked with the responsibility to look after player registration disputes, transfer eligibility and ensure that young football players are nor exploited due to legalities.

AIFF Appeals Committee
