Former Indian captain Bhaichung Bhutia accused Kalyan Chaubey of corruption.

In response to Bhaichung Bhutia’s statements at a press conference in Kolkata tonight, AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey released an official statement from AIFF’s official X handle.

In his official statement, the AIFF President alleged that Bhaichung Bhutia has been deliberately making baseless allegations to tarnish the image of the AIFF and the Indian football community post his defeat in the September 2022 elections.

The statement read, “It has been observed that since Mr. Bhaichung Bhutia’s defeat in the September 2022 elections, he has consistently and deliberately made baseless allegations and presented a distorted image of the AIFF. Such actions not only tarnish the reputation of the federation but also put Indian football in a negative light on international platforms.”

AIFF President takes dig at Bhutia for frequently opposing collective decisions of board

In his official statement, AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey revealed how Bhaichung Bhutia’s contributions in executive meetings have merely been to oppose the collective decision of the board rather than offering any substantive proposal for the betterment of Indian football.

Kalyan Chaubey also gently reminded that Bhaichung Bhutia had access to empowered platforms in the AIFF Executive meetings to raise his concerns and contribute constructively.

He said, “The AIFF remains open to constructive suggestions from Mr. Bhutia for the growth and betterment of Indian football. However, it is unfortunate that in most Executive Committee meetings, his contributions have primarily centred around opposing decisions made collectively by the entire board, rather than offering substantive proposals.”

AIFF invites Bhaichung Bhutia to present constructive proposals in upcoming AIFF Executive Committee Meeting

AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey extended his heartfelt welcome to Bhaichung Bhutia in the upcoming AIFF Executive Committee Meeting, which is scheduled to take place on 2nd July 2025.

He said, “Having said that, I would like to inform you that Mr. Bhutia is most welcome to participate in the upcoming AIFF Executive Committee meeting scheduled for July 2, 2025. The official invitation for his attendance was extended by the AIFF secretariat on June 11, 2025. He is encouraged to present any constructive proposals at the meeting.”

Bhaichung Bhutia accused Kalyan Chaubey of prioritising his political ambitions and called for his removal

Bhaichung Bhutia, in his recent press conference at Kolkata, made multiple allegations against Kalyan Chaubey. He even advocated for the removal of Kalyan Chaubey after his false promises led to the decline of both the men’s and women’s football teams in the last three years.

He said, “I can assure you, if Kalyan Chaubey is removed, we can’t go below this. There is only upwards and onwards, but retaining Kalyan will only invite further disaster. Indian football will only improve after his departure. I can’t assure how much and how long since good things take time in football. He has autocratically taken all decisions himself and destroyed the state of football in India.”
