The Black Panthers held off a relentless barrage of the Highlanders attacks.
Indian Super League (ISL) club Mohammedan SC head coach Andrey Chernyshov was full of praise after his team’s hard-fought 0-0 draw against NorthEast United FC in matchweek 15. Despite the team missing several key players due to injuries and suspensions, the Russian head coach expressed satisfaction with the result.
While the result is an encouraging outcome for Chernyshov and his men, the same can’t be said for Pedro Benali and his men. The 3rd placed NorthEast United will feel it was a missed opportunity against a weak Mohammedan SC, who currently sit at the bottom of the table.
Andrey Chernyshov was delighted about the result
It’s a fascinating result for the Black Panthers given NorthEast United’s recent run of form and victory in matchweek 14 over defending champions Mumbai City FC. Following the match, during the post-match press conference, coach Chernyshov expressed his delight over the result.
Andrey Chernyshov stated, “I’m so happy with my players. We faced many problems over the last few days-Manzoki, Josef, and Kasimov were unavailable, and Vanlalzuidika was suspended. Franca, who was injured in the previous game, stepped up and played 45 minutes. Taking a point against one of the best teams in ISL away from home is a great result.”

Chernyshov dismisses rumours of dressing room discord
The Russian head coach also took the opportunity to dismiss rumors of any internal discord within the Mohammedan SC camp. While highlighting the strong bond in the camp, Andrey Chernyshov stated, “Many people speak about issues in our dressing room without knowing the truth. We are united, and no one can destroy us.”
The result will be another huge boost to the team cohesion and motivate them in the remaining games this season. The Black Panthers will need to stick together if they are to turn around a miserable season full of challenges on and off the field.
Mohammedan SC are setting realistic goals for the season
When asked about the team’s goals for the season, Chernyshov acknowledged the challenges of competing as a relatively new ISL team with a young squad. The squad is full of young players and new signings, who have been under pressure since matchweek 1.
While looking ahead to the games that lie, Andrey Chernyshov stated, “We need time to develop. We aim to move up the table, step by step. We’re not happy with our position, but our supporters deserve better, and we will work to deliver that.”
January will be crucial for Andrey Chernyshov and his men
With the transfer window open, Andrey Chernyshov confirmed that Mohammedan SC is actively looking to strengthen their squad. With only seven points in 14 games this season, January comes at the perfect time for the club.
While talking about the winter transfer window business, Andrey Chernyshov stated, “We’ve given our management a list of the positions and players we need. It’s not easy—some players are expensive, and others may hesitate to join a team at the bottom of the table—but we are determined to add experienced players to improve in the second half of the season.”
A lot of work remains for Chernyshov and his men
Mohammedan SC’s gritty performance against the Highlanders reflects their determination to climb the league table in double quick time. With Chernyshov’s imprints starting to show on the team, he will be hoping to turn their fortunes around.
To get more wins this season, the club will be keen to reward their fans with improved performances in the coming weeks. The upcoming weeks will be crucial for Mohammedan SC as they look to rally a late charge towards the top-six ISL playoff spots.
