Khalid Jamil highlights performance of 'key players' ahead of Bengaluru FC clash in ISL
Khalid Jamil’s side will be without Stephen Eze who will miss the game after picking up a fifth yellow card.
Following their hard-fought victory over Kerala Blasters, Jamshedpur FC are brimming with confidence as they gear up to face Bengaluru FC in an eagerly anticipated ISL encounter. With the match set to take place at the iconic JRD Tata Sports Complex, also known as the Furnace, coach Khalid Jamil and Japanese sensation Rei Tachikawa addressed the media to share insights on their preparations and the performances of key players ahead of this critical clash.
Coach Jamil emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum and consistency, while Tachikawa highlighted the team’s collective effort and resilience. Both expressed optimism about the upcoming fixture, underscoring their determination to secure another crucial victory in front of their passionate home crowd.
On Ritwik Das’ comeback
Khalid Jamil highlighted the potential availability of Ritwik Das for the upcoming clash against Bengaluru FC, underlining his significance to Jamshedpur FC’s setup. Ritwik played a pivotal role in the club’s ISL Shield-winning campaign, showcasing his knack for creating and converting opportunities with his incisive runs and crucial assists. Having previously thrived under coaches like Owen Coyle, Aidy Boothroyd, and Scott Cooper, Ritwik has been a notable name in the Indian Super League.
However, recent seasons have seen him struggle with medical and fitness concerns, limiting his consistency and time on the pitch. Despite these setbacks, Ritwik has made a gradual return, training rigorously with the squad and featuring briefly in the last couple of games. Coach Jamil emphasized that Ritwik’s selection for the upcoming match will hinge on his fitness levels, adaptability in training, and readiness to make an impact on the pitch.
Jamil said, “Regarding Ritwik, I think he’s doing well, and we’ll use him according to the situation. We’ll decide tomorrow based on his behaviour, practice, and performance. He’s been working hard, and I’m confident he’ll make a significant impact when given the opportunity.”
On Eze’s absence and local lad Mobashir
When addressing the absence of Stephen Eze, who is suspended after accumulating his fifth yellow card, Khalid Jamil stated that the decision on his replacement would be guided by tactical considerations and match analysis. The coach hinted at the possibility of Serbian defender Lazar Cirkovic stepping in but did not rule out the prospect of fielding an entirely Indian defensive lineup.
Regarding Mobashir Rahman, Jamil urged the home fans to remain patient and trust in the local talent’s abilities. He emphasized Mobashir’s immense potential and reiterated that opportunities would arise for him at crucial moments. A Jamshedpur native, Mobashir has been a pivotal figure for the club since its inaugural season, consistently embodying the pride and resilience of the city in his performances.
On Rei Tachikawa’s brilliance
When asked about Rei Tachikawa, who joined him at the press conference, Coach Khalid Jamil lauded the Japanese midfielder as an invaluable asset to Jamshedpur FC. He praised Tachikawa’s work ethic, deep understanding of Indian football, and adaptability, qualities that have made him a key figure in the squad. Jamil expressed his privilege in coaching Tachikawa, the only foreign player retained through the transition from Scott Cooper to Jamil’s tenure, which began mid-season last year.
Jamil highlighted Tachikawa’s consistent brilliance on the field and emphasized his crucial role in the team’s strategy for the upcoming match against Bengaluru FC, expressing optimism that the midfielder’s creativity and goal-scoring instincts could help secure a vital win at the Furnace.
Jamil stated, “I’m pleased with Rei’s performance; he’s a hardworking player who knows Indian football well. He’s versatile and can play multiple positions, which is a significant asset for our team.”
On Red Miner’s transfer window
When asked about Jamshedpur FC’s plans for the winter transfer window, Coach Khalid Jamil provided insights into the club’s strategy. He confirmed that the only departure so far has been forward Manvir Singh, who has joined Mohammedan Sporting Club after struggling for opportunities with the team.
Jamil emphasized the critical importance of the upcoming transfer window, expressing the club’s intent to carefully monitor the market for potential reinforcements. He stated that any player aligning with Jamshedpur FC’s philosophy and capable of strengthening either the attack or defence would be considered a valuable addition. The coach reaffirmed his commitment to building a competitive squad to maintain the team’s momentum in the ongoing season.
Jamil said, “As for the transfer window, we haven’t made any decisions yet. However, if we find a good player who can strengthen our team, we’ll definitely consider bringing him on board. We recently released Manveer Singh, and we’ll see what the future holds. Our goal is to build a strong and competitive team, and we’ll do whatever it takes to achieve that.”
