Anwar Ali’s transfer will be subject to approval by the AIFF Players’ Status Committee.

All seemed to be going well for Mohun Bagan’s defender Anwar Ali. However, on the cusp of signing a pre-agreement contract with rivals East Bengal, Anwar was denied the NOC/Release Letter from the club.

He accordingly filed a claim with the AIFF Players’ Status Committee seeking relief of recognizing the termination of his loan with Mohun Bagan Super Giant and getting the NOC/Release Letter from the club after terminating the contract under FIFA Regulations on Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP).

Contrary to expectations, the ball-playing centre-back had terminated the deal “without just cause” according to the AIFF Players’ Status Committee.

The interim order published by the committee stated that the consequences per Article 20 of the AIFF RSTP, 2024 and any other associated regulations will be applicable as a result. These clauses will see the AIFF Players’ Status Committee liable to approve any request for transfer raised by the player.

Delhi FC and East Bengal have also been issued notices by the committee under Article 6.3 of the AIFF Rules Governing the Procedures of the AIFF PSC June 2021 (Rules), seeking their response on why they should not be held jointly and severely liable with the player for any damages awarded. The committee has given them a deliberation period of five days for the reply.

After the committee receives these replies, they shall decide on a date wherein the issue of compensation or any other consequences arising out of the termination of the loan contract will be discussed.

In summary, Anwar Ali along with his parent club Delhi FC, and possibly East Bengal might have to compensate Mohun Bagan if the AIFF Players’ Status Committee doesn’t deem the clubs’ responses as satisfactory.

The defender will also be unable to complete any move without the committee’s approval and has to wait till the committee passes an official verdict.
