Three key players for Mohun Bagan in Calcutta Football League derby

Mohun Bagan will look to improve their Calcutta Football League form and clinch three points.

Mohun Bagan have drawn both of their group fixtures in the Calcutta Football League 2024 before the Kolkata Derby.

The Kolkata giants are still in search of their first win in the regional setup. On the contrary, their arch-rivals East Bengal have registered comfortable victories in the couple of fixtures they have played till now. The second-most successful club in the history of the tournament, Mohun Bagan didn’t have the best of starts to their campaign.

In the first game, a high-spirited Sangbad Pratidin Bhawanipore held tight to the ISL League Winners’ Shield defending champions while in the second game, the Green and Maroons were 2-0 up early on, but ASOS Rainbow AC rose from the ashes to make an astonishing comeback on the brink of half-time.

Mohun Bagan are yet to register any points when they meet their arch-rivals East Bengal in the historic Kolkata Derby, which will be the third game for both sides in the ongoing CFL 2024. While East Bengal are third in Group B, Mohun Bagan Super Giant are currently placed ninth in the table.

3. Suhail Bhat

Suhail Bhat is hoping to make his way into the Mohun Bagan senior team this season and he has to step up in games like this to make it happen. The youthful attacker, who recently scored an outstanding double in the Mariners’ draw with ASOS Rainbow, is entering the derby in excellent form.

Suhail Bhat can win crucial duels in the opposition half, is physically skilled at intimidating defenders and his off-the-ball movement makes him a dangerous threat. He must deftly coordinate with his teammates to penetrate the East Bengal defence and enter crucial scoring zones covertly.

2. Sibajit Singh

The teenager curled a wonderful free-kick to give Mohun Bagan an initial lead in the first match. He has impressed everyone with his pace and skills in the ongoing tournament and the Mariners will be hoping to see some magic from him in the derby.While facing a forward line led by players like Taison and Suhail Bhat, Sibajit will look to give measured passes.

1. Taison Singh

Loitongbam Taison Singh is one of the players who can take centre stage. The well-known young talent with enormous potential was formerly with the Indian Arrows. He is incredibly versatile, as he can play as a False 9, a No. 10 or an aggressive winger. He was a member of Mohun Bagan’s winning Durand Cup team in 2023.Taison Singh, who will be the Green and Maroons’ central man in the Kolkata Derby, will be in-charge of organizing the build-up in the attacking third and spearheading fast counter-attacks.
