Chaotic scenes at Furnace mar Jamshedpur FC's narrow win over Mohun Bagan

Jamshedpur hosted its first-ever ISL Semi-Final match.
The Indian Super League (ISL) Semi-Finals showdown kicked off in the Steel City of Jamshedpur as the Jamshedpur FC locked horns against the Mohun Bagan Super Giant. A place in the ISL Finals was at stake for both teams. In an expected turn of events, Jamshedpur FC scripted a miraculous win over the Mariners after Javi netted a stoppage-time winner to hand a decisive lead to the home side
Amidst an electrifying contest in the Steel City, some disturbing scenes surfaced on social media where several fans were reported injured and allegedly blamed the police for mismanagement and chaos. Such high-octane matches are filled with exuberance and passion, often bringing fans together in an overwhelming display of loyalty and support for their teams.
However, when celebrations spiral into disorder and chaos, the essence of football as a unifying sport is always at risk of being overshadowed by unfortunate incidents. The chaotic scenes that emerged from the JRD Tata Sports Complex, with reports of injuries amidst clashes between the two fan groups and alleged mismanagement, highlight the pressing need for better crowd control measures.
Mohun Bagan issue an official statement condemning the attack on the visiting fans
Mohun Bagan released an official statement from their X account to express their concerns amidst the troubling reports of violence against their travelling supporters. The statement read,
“We at Mohun Bagan strongly condemn the unjust behaviour and aggression of several security and management personnel at the away stand of the JRD Tata Sports Complex on 03.04.2025. We must all remember, Football is nothing without fans.”
Jamshedpur FC previously issued a precautionary guideline to designate a stand for the away fans, aiming to ensure their safety and create a structured matchday experience. The tweet read, “To ensure a smooth matchday experience, all travelling Mohun Bagan SG fans are advised to purchase tickets for the designated Away Stand only (South West Upper) at The Furnace.”
The Red Miners have a slender lead in the first leg

Mohun Bagan entered this match as the favourites as they are the reigning ISL Shield Winners and Jamshedpur had a big mountain to climb. Defying all odds, it was Siverio who broke the deadlocks for the Red Miners and gave them a decisive lead.
It took just 14 minutes for the mighty Mariners to find an equaliser after Jason Cummings converted from the free kick. However, Ritwik’s assist and Javi’s goal in the dying seconds stole away the show as the Furnace erupted in jubilation as Jamshedpur FC are ahead in the race to reach the ISL Finals.
However, it would be too early to celebrate for the Red Miners as 90 minutes of the match still await their presence in the Mecca of Indian Football. It would never be easy for Khalid Jamil to hold onto that slender lead in front of the vociferous and passionate Mohun Bagan fans.
