Owen Coyle was happy with his player’s performance.
Two-time Indian Super League(ISL) champions Chennaiyin FC pulled out a historic result at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Monday. The Marina Machans ran riot as they handed Jamshedpur FC a huge loss on their home turf.
Irfan Yadwad ran the show for CFC, scoring a goal and providing two assists. Wilmar Jordan Gil, Lukas Brambilla, and Connor Shields were all on the scoresheet as Owen Coyle was a happy man at the end of the day.
Here is what the Chennaiyin FC manager said in the post-match press conference:
Owen Coyle’s thoughts on Chennaiyin FC’s big win
Jamshedpur FC had won all three previous home games in the 2024-25 ISL season. Hence the CFC manager was even more happy with his team’s performance.
Talking to the media, Owen Coyle said, “It was an outstanding performance. I think Jamshedpur were in the lead in all home games this season, is that correct? They carried all before them. So we knew it would be a difficult game. But how we set about it from the first whistle was outstanding.
Owen Coyle added, “We probably should have been in front before we were with some wonderful chances, some terrific football. We scored five goals tonight and in truth, we could probably have done nine or ten. Some of the chances that we had were outstanding from the first whistle.”

Owen Coyle on Irfan Yadwad
Talking about Chennaiyin FC’s star performer against Jamshedpur FC. Owen Coyle said, “Young Irfan Yadwad got an outstanding goal, he’s been threatening that since day one. I’ve seen something in him, so I’ve persevered with him, I’ve tried to encourage and bring him on, develop him. Irfan has worked ever so hard for the team and even when he’s not scored, he still does a tremendous job.”
Irfan was under a lot of scrutiny before the game against Jamshedpur FC. The forward had failed to have a telling contribution and hence he faced a lot of backlash on social media. However, the youngster has certainly silenced his critics after his latest performance.
Talking to the media in terms of the backlash that Irfan faced, the Chennaiyin FC coach said, ”The people involved in the game, we see the effort. Others, some people don’t and people always question this and that. But with all due respect, let the people that know the game and the coaches, let them judge players as they know the best way to go about for your team.”
Owen Coyle’s thoughts on Chennaiyin FC’s away form
Chennaiyin FC managed to pick up just eight points away from home last season in the ISL. However, there has been a change in the fortune of CFC this term. All three wins so far this season have come away from home for the Marina Machans.
Talking in regards to this, Owen Coyle said, “We’ve had five away games and two at home so far. Nobody’s had a schedule like that in the league. What we have done, we’ve now taken more points this season away from home already in those five games than we did the whole of last season.”
In regards to his team’s form, Owen Coyle concluded by saying, “Obviously we made the playoffs last year because we finished strongly. So, knowing how strong, certainly we always feel, we’re strong in the second half of the season. So it’s a nice spot to be in.”
