List of all clubs Sunil Chhetri has represented
The 39-year-old represented two foreign clubs
In the era of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, India and Asia had their very own flag bearer in the form of Sunil Chhetri. The Indian skipper has decided to hang up his boots after a glorious career of over 19 years for the national team.
Chhetri leaves the national team having made a record 150 appearances and scored 94 goals while being the third-highest active goal scorer in international football behind modern greats like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
As Chhetri bids goodbye to the beautiful blue jersey, we take a look at all the clubs that he has played for in his career.
Mohun Bagan
Chhetri made his professional debut in the Green and Maroon of Mohun Bagan back in 2002. He played 18 games and scored eight goals during his first stint with the Kolkata Giants. He re-joined Bagan in 2011 and went on to score eight more goals in just 14 appearances.
JCT
The 39-year-old then joined JCT in 2005. He played 48 games for the club and scored 22 goals, including a tally of 12 goals in a single season.
East Bengal
After that, Chhetri joined alliances with the Red and Gold Brigade in 2008. He made 17 appearances and scored nine goals in just one season with the Kolkata Giants.
Dempo SC
He then moved to Dempo SC on a two-year deal and represented them in 13 games while finding the back of the net eight times.
Kansas City Wizards
In 2010 came Chhetri’s biggest opportunity as he was offered the chance to play overseas and was signed by Major League Soccer (MLS) side Kansas City Wizards. However, he did not play an official game but was involved in a friendly clash against English giants Manchester United.
Chirag United
Chhetri returned to India the following year and joined West Bengal based Chirag United. He only played seven goals for the side and ended up scoring as many goals during his stay at the club.
Sporting CP
Chhetri was once again offered a contract by an international club in 2012. He was signed by the Portuguese outfit Sporting CP for their reserve squad. He made three appearances for Sporting before returning to India.
Churchill Brothers
Sunil was loaned out to Churchill Brothers during his time with Sporting CP. He played 13 games for the Goan side and scored six goals for them in 2013.
Mumbai City FC
The Indian skipper was picked by Mumbai City FC in the 2015 Indian Super League (ISL) season as the most expensive Indian player. He was with the Islanders for two seasons and played around 17 games while accumulating seven goals and two assists.
Bengaluru FC
Bengaluru FC are undoubtedly the club of Sunil Chhetri’s life. He has been associated with the Blues for almost eleven seasons now and has represented them both in the I-league as well as the ISL. Chhetri is Bengaluru’s record goalscorer having scored 111 goals and provided 21 assists in 266 appearances across all competitions. He has also won multiple accolades with the Blues, including the I-league and ISL titles.
