Defending champions NorthEast United have also qualified for the last eight and will be locking horns against Bodoland FC in the first quarter-final. The stage is set and the lines are drawn for the knockout stages of Asia’s oldest football tournament. The 2025 Durand Cup will enter its most energetic and highly staked phase with eight teams looking to get their hands on the elusive trophy. It’s been an entertaining campaign so far, with teams all across the country putting up noteworthy performances.

After 36 group stage fixtures and 124 goals being scored, it has all come down to the wire for the remaining eight teams. Group winners of all six groups, alongside the two best second-placed sides, have qualified for the knockouts and will take on each other come Saturday. First up, defending champions NorthEast United FC will lock horns against Bodoland FC to kickstart proceedings.

Everything at stake

This is not a normal group stage fixture and has a lot at stake for both teams. No mistakes here will go unpunished, and therefore, either side will hope to bring their A-game to the table. It’s a do-or-die game where the winner goes through to the semi-final, while the losing side will pack their bags and go back home. 

For NorthEast United FC, the goal is very simple. They have to do everything that they can to retain their title. The Highlanders have toiled really hard so far and have shown the grit and hunger that champions possess. Juan Pedro Benali’s team are undefeated at the competition with two wins and a draw during the league stages, but will have to solve minor issues here and there.

Meanwhile, Bodoland FC find themselves in unusual territory. They have made it to the knockouts for the first time in their history and will be wanting to make it count. Khlain Pyrkhat Syiemlieh’s team won all of their group stage games and won Group D against Punjab FC, Karbi Anglong Morning Star and ITB Police.This will only be the second meeting between the two outfits.

The first game was played during the group stages last year, where NorthEast United FC emerged victorious with a 2-0 win at the very same venue in Kokrajhar. The Highlanders know the winning mantra against the local rivals and should make the most of it.

When and where to watch Bodoland FC vs Northeast United FC Quarter-final 1 in the Durand Cup? 

The all-important quarter-final fixture will be played on Saturday, 16 August, at the SAI Stadium in Kokrajhar, Assam. The match will start at 7 PM IST. The fans can tune into the live telecast on Sony TEN 2 and Sony TEN 2 HD channels. This fixture will also be live-streamed on Sony Liv.
