Kolkata Derby victors East Bengal will take on Diamond Harbour FC in the second semi-final of the Durand Cup 2025 at the Yuva Bharati Kirangan for a spot in the final against NorthEast United FC. The Highlanders defeated Shillong Lajong to reach the final.

Diamond Harbour’s fairytale run to the semi-final has been nothing short of shocking. Placed in the same group with two Kolkata giants – Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan SC, they managed to come second and qualify as one of the two best second placed teams. Moving into the knockout stage, they trounced another ISL side, Jamshedpur FC by a 2-0 scoreline, Sairaut Kima scoring a terrific brace.

East Bengal, on the other hand, have been tremendous ever since the start of the campaign. They scored a whopping 12 goals in their group before defeating arch rivals Mohun Bagan in a highly anticipated Boro Match.

A Classic David and Goliath clash

East Bengal already having defeated their nemesis, and their kryptonite of late, Mohun Bagan makes them look unstoppable at the moment. With well trained, fit, and skilled players all across the pitch, Oscar Bruzon has a great array of options to choose from. To cap it off, Dimitrios Diamantakos, the Golden Boot winner of the 2023/24 Indian Super League looked like his old prolific self with a crucial brace against the Mariners.

The Red and Gold brigade have won the second most Durand Cup titles, with 16. However, their last tournament victory came in the 2004 and have fallen short in the finals on multiple occasions since. Lifting the trophy in this edition would mean that they would go level with Mohun Bagan on 17 total Durand titles.

Diamond Harbour, on the other hand, had only been founded in 2020, the year that East Bengal celebrated its centenary. In just five years, the club has made a name for itself in Bengal Football.

Currently they have qualified for their first ever season in the I-League, the second division of club football in India. A win against heavyweights East Bengal would become one of the most memorable moments in the club’s history.

The second semi final of the Durand Cup 2025 between the Red and Gold Army and the Harbour Boys will kick off at 7:00 PM IST on 20th August, 2025. It will be played at the Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) in Kolkata.
