Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal FC ratings: Diamantakos, Mahesh shine; Gill, Sahal disappoint in Kolkata Derby

The Quarter Final of the Durand Cup ended in a 2-1 victory for East Bengal FC.
East Bengal FC clinched a hard-fought 2-1 win over their arch-rival Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the Durand Cup 2025 quarterfinals on 17th August 2025, Sunday at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. With this victory East Bengal FC have confirmed their spot in the semi-finals of the Durand Cup 2025.
Dimitrios Diamantakos emerged as the difference maker for Oscar Bruzon’s side. The Greek forward netted a two crucial goals after coming on from the bench, proving to be the difference-maker in the Kolkata Derby. While Anirudh Thapa scored for Mohun Bagan his goal wasn’t enough to stop East Bengal from marching on into the semifinals.

Vishal Kaith (GK) : 6/10
A surprisingly shaky performance from Vishal Kaith as he was beaten easily from the spot by Dimitrios Diamantakos as the penalty was converted to a goal. He also failed to read the shot by Diamantakos and looked short of his usual command even though he was good with the ball distribution
Tom Aldred : 6/10
Tom Aldred’s performance was steady as he made some clearances but didn’t have a major influence. He did his defensive duties well and efficient passing staying calm without crumbling under the pressure
Anirudh Thapa : 6/10
Anirudh Thapa was struggling to impose himself in the midfield. He wasn’t able to control the momentum and even underperformed in the link up play
Liston Colaco : 7/10
Liston Colaco was one of Mohun Bagan’s standout performers as he kept attacking throughout the match. Playing on the wings, he was trying to create chances, take on defenders one on one and delivering crosses into the box However, despite his consistent effort, nothing solid came up from his attempts.
Sahal Abdul Samad : 5.5/10
Sahal struggled to make a significant impact on the game, and his overall performance was disappointing. Although his energy was visible in the first 15 minutes of the second half as he tried to get more involved in the link up play, he was unable to influence the attack or create chances
Alberto Rodriguez : 6/10
Alberto Rodriguez had a decent performance throughout the match, He played a reliable defensive role throughout the match. He was composed on the ball and made some important tackles and clearances.
Pasang Dorjee Tamang : 6/10
Pasang had a very limited time on the field before being substituted early in the first half. While he made some good runs in an effort to control the momentum, he was unable to make a huge impact
Tekcham Abhishek Singh : 6.5/10
Abhishek had a good performance, effectively balancing his defensive and attacking duties. He was strong in his defensive positioning and also constantly kept moving forward to try and create chances. However he failed to properly clear the shot that led to Diamantakos’s second goal. This one critical mistake overshadowed his performance.
Jamie Maclaren : 6.5/10
In the first half, Jamie Maclaren was actively looking to create chances for his team. He was a constant presence in and around the opposition’s box, making runs and trying to find the back of the net
Ashish Rai : 6.5/10
Ashish Rai had well-rounded performance on the right flank balancing offensive and defensive duties as well. He even worked hard to move forward and create chances while working on defensive responsibilities and tracking back effectively
Apuia Ralte – 7/10
Apuia was the engine of the midfield, putting in a tireless performance from start to finish. He consistently won back possession and kept the ball moving with his reliable passing. He was the vital link between defense and attack.

Dimitrios Petratos – 6.5/10
Dimitrios Petratos was very active in the attack, which showed a clear intent to score a goal. He consistently was moving into scoring positions and was a constant threat to the opposition’s defense. However, despite his best efforts, he couldn’t convert his chances into goals as His finishing was lacking.
Deepak Tangri – 6/10
Deepak Tangri was brought on in the second half and he did a decent job. He was reliable helping his teammates to link the defense and the attack with his passing.
Dippendu Biswas – 6/10
Dippendu Biswas entered the game in the second half, and his performance was a mixed performance. While he showed moments of promise, his overall impact on the match was limited.

Suhail entered the match in the dying moments clearly aimed at injecting fresh energy into the team. He moved into good positions. He didn’t have a major chance to make a major impact.

Prabhsukhan Gill – 5/10
Gill was a bit sloppy with his cross collection, putting his defenders under pressure with some mistakes. He should’ve done better to track and parry away Thapa’s shot for his goal. Made some nice saves, but not at his most reliable.
Mohammad Rakip – 7/10
Rakip was pretty proactive on the left side and mostly did well in keeping Liston Colaco quiet. He made some solid challenges and didn’t allow the winger too much room.
Anwar Ali – 8/10

The India centre-back was disciplined and commanding with his defensive work. Didn’t give Maclaren any room to cause trouble and made some crunching tackles to assert his authority.
Kevin Sibille – 7.5/10
Sibile was pretty solid in his first Kolkata derby. He held together a strong defensive line with Anwar and made some key challenges, including a huge goalline save.
Lalchungnunga – 5.5/10
Nunga continues to look slightly out of place in the left-back role. He made some nice challenges, but often allowed chances to be created down his side and wasn’t able to stop Mohun Bagan’s flow.
Saul Crespo – 6/10
Saul worked hard in the midfield to cover spaces and stop Mohun Bagan from creating major chances through the central areas. A bit aggressive at times, making some unnecessary fouls and got booked.
Miguel Ferreira – 8/10
Ferreira was a real driving figure for his side in the midfield, taking the fight to the Mohun Bagan players. He did well with his possession recoveries and made some excellent forward runs. Played a key role in helping make the second goal and had a few shots thwarted.
Naorem Mahesh Singh – 8.5/10
The East Bengal captain led from the front with an inspiring display. He was a thorn for the opposition players with his clever movement, drawing many fouls. Mahesh created a number of big chances and played a brilliant pass for Diamantakos’ second goal.
Edmund Lalrindika – 7/10
Edmund was an energetic threat on the right wing, making some impressive runs and moving the ball forward well. He got the ball into some nice areas, but his finishing wasn’t that efficient.
Bipin Singh – 7/10
Bipin was a threat with his speedy runs and his unpredictable movement in the fina third. He put in some nice crosses into the box and earned the penalty with soe smart work in the box.
Hamid Ahadad – N/R
Ahadad came into the game with an issue, having his calf strapped up. Reaggravated the injury issue and had to be taken off 15 minutes into the game.

Diamantakos finally turns into a hero in a big game for East Bengal! He did really well with his link-up play to trouble the defenders and helped move his side forward nicely. Took his penalty perfectly and produced a crisp finish for his second goal.
