East Bengal sign young prospects Chaku Mandi & Bijoy Murmu from Bhawanipore
Both players garnered attention after their heroics for Bhawanipore and Bengal.
For the past two seasons, under the guidance of Bino George, East Bengal have been keenly working on their reserves squad. Such is the impact of this process, that recently a few of the players like Shyamal Besra, Mahitosh Roy and earlier, PV Vishnu, Jesin TK and Aman CK, got promoted to the senior squad.
In order to strengthen their reserves unit for the upcoming season, East Bengal have roped in defender Chaku Mandi and winger Bijoy Murmu from local outfit Bhawanipore FC, Khel Now can confirm.
A source tracking the developments, informed Khel Now this morning, “Yes, Chaku and Bijoy have both signed for East Bengal. Both players are equally talented and have the mentality or character to don the colours of big clubs.”
Speaking more about Chaku Mandi, the source claimed, “Chaku will be an interesting signing. I don’t know how East Bengal will plan to use his services, but Bhawanipore used him as a defensive midfielder.” Notably, Chaku is a utility player, who can ply his trade both as a defender and a No.6.
Regarding Bijoy Murmu, the source added, “Bijoy is a very hard-working lad. He has also represented Bengal in the Santosh Trophy and even scored against Odisha in their opening game, if I remember correctly.” Murmu is a prolific winger and someone who was in the good books of Bhawanipore officials as well.
Both Chaku Mandi and Bijoy Murmu will initially join the reserves squad of East Bengal, as of now. They have been promised a spot in the senior team, led by Carles Cuadrat, but that will only come to place if they are able to perform to the best of their abilities for Bino George’s contingent.
Cuadrat along with his assistant Dimas Delgado, has the habit of attending the reserves’ matches, irrespective of the venue or the weather. So, it’s fine to imagine that these two young guns will one day be noticed by the Spaniard and they’ll be called up to the main camp.
