The young guns of East Bengal will look to perform well on the global stage.
Last year’s Reliance Football Development League (RFDL) runners East Bengal FC have announced their 19-member squad for the fifth edition of the Next Generation Cup. The Bino George coached side reached the UK today for the tournament hosted by the Premier League.
The young Red & Gold brigade will battle with the youth teams of Premier League sides Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Everton on the first three days of August respectively. Proven talents like Sayan Banerjee, Muhammed Jaseel K, and Shyamal Besra are present in the young East Bengal squad.
The 19-member squad consists of two goalkeepers, five defenders, eight midfielders, and four attackers. The team will initially play its group-stage opponents at Aston Villa’s Bodymoor Training Ground. The final of this competition will be held at the Loughborough University Stadium.
All the games of this tournament will be 50 minutes long, with two halves of 25 minutes each. The 2024 Next Gen Cup will be competed among eight teams, which include four teams from the UK, three from India, and one from South Africa.

The group stage of the tournament will take place from August 1 to August 3, while the play-offs and finale will be held on August 4.
The inaugural season of the competition was held in Navi Mumbai, where the youth team of Chelsea emerged as champions. In 2022, South Africa’s Stellenbosch U-23 & West Ham United from England won the trophy. Last year, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC clinched the cup. To date, no Indian side has won the Next Gen Cup. With a talented squad like this, East Bengal will surely dream of becoming the first side.
