East Bengal will earn a group spot in the AFC Champions League Two with a win.

East Bengal FC are all set to return to their first AFC stage fixture in nine years as they take on Turkmenistan side FC Altyn Asyr in their first AFC Champions League Two (ACL two) preliminary round game.

The Red and Gold Brigade won their first silverware as they grabbed the Kalinga Super Cup in 2024. By doing so they secured themselves a berth in the prestigious Asian competition. East Bengal fans will be elated at their clubs’ return to Asian championships and will be hoping for a miracle.

The Torchbearers advanced to the semi-finals of the AFC Cup (now named ACL Two) in 2013 but crashed out of the competition on the verge of making history after a defeat against Kuwait SC on a 7-2 aggregate scoreline. Fans of East Bengal have high hopes for Carles Cuadrat’s seasoned men and will be hoping that the ISL-winning Spaniard can lead their side one step further.

Tickets for the ACL Two Preliminary round game, featuring East Bengal and FC Altyn Asyr, in Kolkata on 14th August are now live and accessible via Bookmyshow.

The game will be hosted at Kolkata’s very own Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan on 14th August, Wednesday and the match will commence at 7 pm.

Ticket prices for the event start at only Rs. 50 and go up to Rs. 750 but are selling like hotcakes. All of the tickets are worth Rs. 750 and Rs. 50 have been sold out with only the Rs 200, 250, 300, and 500 categories remaining. The VIP area passes are the ones costing Rs 500 but going by the sales rate, won’t be available for long.

Four teams, including East Bengal FC, are competing for the two available slots in the ACL Two Group Stage in the West Zone. Bahrain’s Al Ahli will battle it out with the Torchbearers’ former opponents Kuwait SC for the other slot at the Bahrain National Stadium in Riffa.

Overall 32 teams will compete in the newly-introduced second-tier men’s club competition. While 27 teams from across 21 Member Associations (MAs) – 12 from the West region and 15 from the East – qualify directly to the Group Stage, along with the three teams (two West, one East) that will be eliminated from the Preliminary Stage of the AFC Champions League Elite tournament. Mohun Bagan Super Giant, being the 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL) League Shield Winners, have already qualified for the ACL Two Group Stage.
