FC Goa qualified for the preliminary stage of ACL 2 after winning the Super Cup

After emerging as the winners of the Super Cup, FC Goa will have a crucial opportunity as they face Oman’s Al Seeb in the preliminary stage of the AFC Champions League 2. As the Winners of the Super Cup, the Gaurs have earned the chance to qualify for Asia’s second-tier club competition and will play their preliminary game against Al Seeb on 13th August at the Fatorda Stadium, Goa

The AFC’s Champions League Two will have a huge number of participants. With 29 sides, which include 14 from the West region and 15 from the East region, this competition will also feature the clubs that have been eliminated from the ACL Elite Preliminary Stage to enter the Group Stage. The preliminary round will be played on August 12 and 13.

A look at FC Goa’s run in the Super Cup

FC Goa will be vying for a place in AFC Champions League Two as a representative from India following Kalinga Super Cup win.
FC Goa routed Jamshedpur FC 3-0 to clinch the Kalinga Super Cup.

The 2024-25 Indian Super League season was a significant one for FC Goa, under Head Coach Manolo Marquez’s leadership. The Gaurs showed an incredible campaign, finishing second on the points table with 48 points. This was from 14 victories and 6 draws.

The Gaurs not only surpassed their previous season’s 45 points but also matched the total of the 2023-24 Shield winners, Mohun Bagan Super Giant. They were just three wins less of this season’s league leaders and were very close to winning the ISL Shield.

FC Goa truly dominated the Kalinga Super Cup throughout the tournament. Their path to the final was marked by three convincing victories: 3-0 win over Gokulam Kerala in the Round-of-16, a 2-1 comeback against Punjab FC in the quarter-final and a 3-1 victory over Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the semi-final.

Finally, they clinched the Super Cup with a 3-0 victory against Jamshedpur FC in the final. Overall, they scored 11 goals and conceded just two, adding a well-deserved trophy to their cabinet in this season.

Meanwhile Al Seeb Club had clinched their fifth Oman Professional League title for the 2024-25 season, celebrating the championship after a 1-1 draw in their final-round match against Al-Nasr. They finished atop the league table with a commanding 51 points and a position in the ACL Two.

It certainly won’t be an easy task for The Gaurs to defeat Al Seeb, as both clubs are intensely motivated to secure their spot in the Asian competition.
