I-League 2024-25: All foreigners of SC Bengaluru
The Golden Tigers have brought in two new faces from beyond the pond.
I-League club Sporting Club Bengaluru, one of the dark horse teams in the 2024-25 season, have bolstered their squad with many new signings. While they brought in a mix of young and experienced Indian talent, foreign signings always excite fans. The club have brought in two prominent foreign signings with considerable club football experience.
Both players bring diverse skill sets to a team that are aiming to make a splash in the second division of Indian football. With an eye towards enhancing the team’s competitive edge, coach Chinta Chandrashekhar will be hoping these players play a vital role this season.
Here are the players who have signed up with Sporting Club Bengaluru ahead of the upcoming season and are looking to go.
Jordan Lamela – Forward
A dynamic centre forward with an attacking flair, Lamela is a dream for any head coach due to his tireless work rate. The 23-year-old will garner a lot of attention from defenders this season and has the versatility to drop into midfield pockets and dictate play as an attacking midfielder. Since his rise from the youth team of Deportivo Alaves U-19 squad, Lamela was introduced to Indian football during his time at Inter Kashi. Playing as a pivotal player in the Kashi lineup last season, Lamela made 30 appearances, while scoring six goals and four assists. At Sporting Bengaluru, he is expected to be the main creative outlet for his squad. He will be a key figure in orchestrating attacks and providing key assists to his teammates this season.
Carlos Lomba – Midfielder
The 32-year-old is set to solidify Sporting Bengaluru’s defense in the upcoming season. Hailing from a strong footballing background in Portugal, the experienced Lomba has traveled around the world and has played in the Lebanon Premier League. A player renowned for his aerial prowess, tackling accuracy, and leadership at the back, he has shown the versatility to step into a defensive midfield role last season.
His experience with Real Kashmir FC last season in the I-League will be crucial in mentoring younger defenders and maintaining composure in high-pressure situations. The Portuguese possess the ability to initiate counterattacks with long passes. He also brings a unique threat during set-piece scenarios and contributed with 2 goals and 4 assists last season for the Snow Leopards.
